Attending the program were the Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam, James Nickel; Associate Professor Tran Thanh Duc, Rector of the University of Agriculture and Forestry ( Hue University); and leaders of Thang An commune.
The program provided each village with a set of essential equipment including: a generator, a 2,000-liter stainless steel water tank, a disinfectant sprayer, a chainsaw, and a handheld loudspeaker, to support evacuation, rescue, and daily life during the rainy and stormy season.
At the same time, the delegation donated 4 water purifiers to the following schools: Binh Dao Kindergarten, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School, Nguyen Hien Secondary School, and Nguyen Thai Binh High School. In addition, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School and Nguyen Hien Secondary School received an additional 115 sets of desks and chairs to replace damaged facilities caused by the flooding.
In addition, the People's Committee of Thang An commune received 3 composite boats with motors and equipment to serve in emergency rescue and communication during natural disasters.

The program, with a total budget of nearly 1 billion VND, is funded by the Canadian government through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), aiming to support people in quickly stabilizing their lives, restoring essential living conditions, and strengthening their capacity to respond to and recover from natural disasters.
It is estimated that approximately 200 students and 2,000 residents will use community shelters, and more than 15,000 people in 14 villages of Thang An commune will directly benefit.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of Thang An Commune People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said that the recent floods had inundated more than 4,200 households, affecting over 25,000 people, causing serious damage to houses, schools and essential infrastructure.
This timely support helped address urgent post-flood difficulties, especially the lack of clean water, sanitation facilities, and warning and rescue equipment.

Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam James Nickel expressed his deep sympathy for the local damage and praised the resilience of the people of Thang An. He affirmed that the Canadian government hopes this support will make a practical contribution to enhancing resilience and ensuring the safety of the people in the face of natural disasters.
The leaders of Thang An commune pledged to closely coordinate in receiving, allocating, and effectively utilizing the support funds, ensuring transparency, accountability, and targeting the right beneficiaries.
