In the early winter days, when the morning mist still lightly covered the fields of Na Trang, Van Ban commune, we visited the vegetable garden of Mrs. Hoang Thi Truong - a person who has been involved in winter crop production for many years.
On the 1,000m2 field, lush green melon trellises, interspersed with rows of tomatoes laden with fruit, signal the approaching bumper harvest season. Each plant is covered with straw to retain moisture, each string is tied firmly to prevent it from falling over in unpredictable weather. It is this carefulness that helps Ms. Truong's vegetable growing area always produce high, stable yields year after year.

Ms. Hoang Thi Truong shared: Due to poor health, the family did not grow rice but focused on the winter crop. Planting early resulted in early harvest, winter vegetables were easy to sell, did not require too much effort to care for, and brought in quite a high income.
Nearby, on the field next to the road, Hoang Thi Thu Hien and her husband are also actively taking care of vegetables. Ms. Hien said: My family grows nearly 1 sao of vegetables mainly for daily meals, and also sets aside a portion to sell for extra income.
Thus, Ms. Hien's family has proactively sourced clean food, saved money, and contributed to keeping the winter rice fields of the village green.

The weather in 2025 is complicated, especially affected by natural disasters, many crop areas are damaged, Van Ban commune has been making efforts to synchronously deploy solutions to restore production.
This year, Van Ban commune was assigned by the Provincial People's Committee to plant 121 hectares of winter crops. Right from the beginning of the season, Van Ban Commune People's Committee issued a plan and promoted the people's participation in winter crop production. In particular, it implemented production linkages with Quang Vinh Agricultural and Forestry Services and Construction Cooperative, An Viet Joint Stock Company and people in Na Loc 2, Lang Chut, Thai Hoa, Lang Nom, Trung Doan, An, Lap Thanh villages to plant 100 hectares of potatoes.
This is a three-party linkage model, between enterprises - cooperatives - people, to support seeds, techniques and product consumption, reduce market risks, and help people feel secure in expanding their acreage. In addition, the three-party linkage model also creates jobs for many local workers during the off-season.

Thanks to proactive and drastic participation, up to now, the whole Van Ban commune has planted 193.4 hectares of winter crops, reaching 133.4% of the plan; including: 76.5 hectares of corn; 12 hectares of sweet potatoes; 68.3 hectares of potatoes; 36.1 hectares of vegetables and beans of all kinds. Van Ban commune strives to earn income from winter crop production of over 98 million VND/1 hectare.
Many villages have boldly applied mechanization in land preparation and planting, helping to reduce costs and production time. However, this year's winter crop also encountered many difficulties: some canals were damaged after natural disasters; some production areas are still small; areas favorable for off-season vegetable production such as It Noc have encountered traffic obstacles and high transportation costs... But in these difficulties, farmers still persevere in their fields and land.

Comrade Pham Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of Van Ban Commune People's Committee said: The commune has directed agricultural extension officers to regularly go to villages, provide technical guidance, and encourage people to feel secure in production.

In the cold weather of early winter, the fields in Van Ban commune are bustling with the sound of tilling machines and the voices of people chatting while tending to each row of vegetables and potato fields. The green color of vegetables is spreading widely, showing the farmers' belief and expectation for a successful winter crop.
