The group stage of the 2025 U17 World Cup officially ended early this morning (November 12). The only representative of Southeast Asia, U17 Indonesia, had to stop despite a historic 2-1 victory over Honduras.
The new format of this year's tournament sees 48 teams divided into 12 groups. The top two teams in each group, along with the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the knockout stages.
U17 Indonesia, despite defeating Honduras 2-1 in the final match of Group H, still could not advance. With 3 points and a goal difference of -5, Indonesia ranked only 10th out of 12 third-placed teams, so they did not qualify for the group of 8 teams to advance.
The final ticket to the round of 32 belonged to Mexico in a dramatic way.
The U17 World Cup from 2025 to 2029 will be held annually instead of every two years as before. The aim is to increase opportunities for competition and development for young players around the world .
