Building defense zones, tightly managing maritime border security

Recognizing and praising the efforts of the armed forces in performing local military and defense tasks in 2025, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, emphasized that with the efforts and determination of the entire political system, the Party Committee, government, people and armed forces of the city have overcome difficulties and determined to complete all aspects of work quite well; the socio-economic, military and defense situation continues to be maintained and achieves many positive results, contributing to strengthening national defense and security and building an increasingly solid city defense area.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee suggested that Party committees and authorities at all levels strengthen staff work, improve the effectiveness and efficiency of leadership and direction in the task of state management of military and defense work. The Military Command and the City Police coordinate to build forces in the direction of "lean, compact, strong", improve the quality of training, exercises, and combat readiness; continue to do a good job of staff work to determine and build military battle plans, military works in defense areas with dual-use.

The Civil Defense Command at all levels has done a good job of advising, leading, and directing the effective implementation of measures to prevent and combat natural disasters and search and rescue in the area according to the "4 on-site" motto. The Department of Agriculture and Environment has done a good job of advising on the preparation of response plans and materials; and policy work in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and catastrophes occurring in the area.

The Chairman of the City People's Committee requested that the military, border guards, police and localities coordinate to grasp the local situation, promptly advise the City Party Committee and People's Committee to effectively handle situations; ensure national defense and security, create a favorable environment for the city to develop its socio-economy; build a solid national defense posture and people's security posture; strengthen measures to strictly manage the maritime border security situation; and mineral and aquatic exploitation activities in the management area.

At the same time, the People's Committees of communes and wards continue to promote their role as the direct level in organizing the implementation of local military and defense tasks at the grassroots level; managing and grasping the local situation, defense and security situation, promptly reporting and handling arising situations. Localities have done well in building forces, building defense zones, and ensuring good policies for the subjects.

In 2025, the City People's Committee actively and proactively advised the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the City People's Council, led and directed the completion of quite comprehensive military and defense tasks. The City has arranged the local military organization when organizing a two-level local government, operating effectively; focused on strictly implementing combat readiness tasks; proactively and flexibly grasped the situation, advised and proposed timely and effective handling of situations, maintained political security, order and social safety in the area; strengthened national defense and security, and built an increasingly solid defense zone.

The military forces coordinate with the police, departments, branches and sectors of the city to promote the core role in researching, assessing and forecasting the situation; organizing the implementation of resolutions and directives of the Party, State, Government, City Party Committee and City People's Council on socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security and building defense zones, effectively implementing social security policies, creating jobs, and reducing poverty.

In addition, the city organized training and education on national defense and security knowledge for the subjects to meet the plan; selected and called citizens to join the army to reach 100% of the target, ensuring quality; integrated training on people's air defense knowledge for 5,860 people, strictly managed no-fly zones, flight management for drones and other flying vehicles; built a standing force in the direction of "lean, compact, strong"; arranged sources of reserve units to ensure quantity, improve quality; built a militia and self-defense force to meet the target.
