Improve training quality and combat readiness

Search and rescue has always been an important task of the militia and self-defense forces in general, but perhaps nowhere else has this task become as arduous and constant as for the militia and self-defense soldiers of the coal industry.

In late October 2025, when we were present at the Vinacomin Mine Rescue Center during a regular training session of officers and soldiers here, we could feel the difficulty and complexity of rescue work in mine accidents. Comrade Nguyen Tien Duat, Platoon Leader of the Self-Defense Platoon, Vinacomin Mine Rescue Center, said: “Normally, when a gas explosion, furnace fire or water leak occurs in the mine, the working environment of the mine rescue self-defense soldiers will be extremely dark, cramped and toxic, with life-threatening danger lurking at any time. However, reality requires each soldier to act quickly, promptly and accurately to minimize damage. As the youngest, strongest and most elite force of the Center, the mine rescue self-defense soldiers are always at the forefront of situations that occur in reality.”

In parallel with carrying out tasks in the mines, ensuring safety for production workers, the "iron wall" of the coal industry is also well-trained, ready to protect the Fatherland early and from afar. The Dang Ba Hat 37mm Anti-Aircraft Artillery Company, Hon Gai-Vinacomin Coal Selection Company has actively and proactively advised the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Company to organize and develop a training plan to improve qualifications, combat readiness, master weapons and equipment with a quick and urgent style, technical and tactical requirements such as determining angle, range, direction, taking firing elements, having gunners calibrate quickly and accurately, ready to wait for orders. Just like that, the gunners according to the mission skillfully perform each key movement.

Comrade Dong Van Hung, Deputy Commander of the Military Command of Hon Gai Coal Selection Company - Vinacomin, shared: "The unit regularly maintains a battery ready for combat 24/7. We organize training to improve skills, ensure proficient technical operations, flexible tactics, the ability to coordinate combat and shoot all types of targets of the battery, platoon, and anti-aircraft artillery company, as a basis for performing combat readiness tasks and fighting when there is a situation."

Every year, to carry out training and drill tasks well, competitions, sports, the Military Command of coal companies in Quang Ninh province has fully prepared facilities, teaching models, training grounds; during the participation, the self-defense units always ensure the safety of people and weapons. More importantly, through training, drills, competitions, sports, each self-defense officer and soldier has improved their mettle, will and ability to use weapons, ready to participate in fighting to protect the Fatherland.

Many practical jobs

Over the past years, officers and soldiers of the Quang Ninh Provincial Armed Forces in general, including officers and soldiers of the coal industry's militia in particular, have strongly promoted the function of the working army, actively implemented the Army's rear policy, the gratitude movement, participated in economic and social development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

In particular, with the movement "Quang Ninh Provincial Armed Forces join hands to build new rural areas", the Provincial Military Command and the Military Command of the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group have coordinated to mobilize officers and soldiers of the Battalion and Self-Defense Company under the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command to contribute funds to participate in building new rural areas. From 2018 to 2025, the coal industry's self-defense units have donated more than 11 billion VND to help localities complete the targets of building new rural areas, building roads, and improving people's lives.
