Co Ma commune was established by merging Co Tong, Pa Long, and Co Ma communes of Thuan Chau district. Currently, the local infrastructure does not meet the requirements for the exchange and trade of goods for the people; 10 villages still lack paved roads from the commune center to the villages. The shift in crop and livestock structure towards commodity production is slow; the lives of the people are still difficult… According to the New Rural Development criteria for the 2026-2030 period, the commune has not yet met any criteria for New Rural Development. Based on the results of the agricultural and rural survey, the locality has proposed appropriate solutions for New Rural Development in the 2026-2030 period.
Speaking with us, Mr. Ly A Chu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Co Ma commune, said: "At the beginning of 2026, the People's Committee of the commune reviewed and assessed the priority level of projects needing investment, combined with the allocated budget to build a list of projects that need to be implemented. We also studied solutions to increase people's income, such as encouraging people to switch to more efficient crop and livestock structures; encouraging people to apply advanced techniques to production; and reviewing people's job search needs to connect them with employers. From there, we aim to increase people's income and enhance their ability to contribute to building new rural areas."

The review results show that several roads from the commune center to the villages of Co Nghè, Cửa Rừng, and some villages in the former Pá Lông cluster, with a total length of approximately 20 km, need to be newly constructed or repaired and upgraded; 10 villages in the commune need investment in building new cultural centers to meet the cultural needs of the people… Based on this, the Commune People's Committee has reported to the competent authorities to request funding for implementation.
Mr. Vang A Dua, Party Secretary and Head of Co Nghe village, Co Ma commune, informed: In 2023, the village management board held a meeting to gather people's opinions on contributing to the construction of a concrete road from the village to Provincial Road 108, approximately 4 km long. By 2024, the villagers unanimously agreed and contributed over 200 million VND to purchase materials and donated more than 3,000 m2 of land to widen the road. However, due to limited resources, although 4 km have been concreted, the road width is only 0.8 m, making travel difficult during the rainy season. We earnestly hope that the government will pay attention and support the widening of the road to make travel more convenient for the people.
To achieve sustainable income growth, the commune directs villages to promote and encourage people to apply science and technology to production and livestock farming. Currently, the commune has 282 hectares of various fruit trees, yielding 1,500 tons of fruit per year. It maintains 85 hectares of coffee trees, of which 15 hectares are already producing, yielding 90 tons of fresh fruit per year. It cultivates 3,378 hectares of grain crops, yielding 8,690 tons per year. In addition, the entire commune cultivates nearly 160 hectares of ginger, producing over 3,187 tons of tubers; and 105 hectares of various vegetables, yielding 1,649 tons... The livestock population remains stable, with a total of over 53,000 head of cattle and poultry.

Mr. Vu A Sia, Party Secretary and Head of Co Tong village, said: "In implementing the task of economic development, in 2023, the village management board mobilized the people to convert 15 hectares of low-yield corn and cassava fields to fruit trees and coffee plants; and to cultivate 5 hectares of hawthorn trees. At the same time, we applied technical procedures to raise 400 large livestock in enclosed pens. This year, the village aims to reduce the number of poor households by 15."
Recognizing economic development as a driving force for building new rural areas, Co Ma commune is continuing to leverage the strength of the entire political system, mobilizing resources to implement the new rural area criteria with the motto "primarily mobilizing internal resources; important support from businesses; necessary investment from the State," and "the people do the work, the State provides support" in infrastructure investment; integrating various sources of capital to support production… striving to achieve at least 4 criteria for building new rural areas by 2030.
The determination of each village to reduce poverty will help to sustainably increase people's income, create a solid foundation, strengthen the people's internal capacity and ability to contribute, so that Co Ma can complete the task of building a new rural area according to the set plan.
