Mr. Nguyen Van Gia - Director of Hoang Gia Lan Cooperative (Nam Hai village) was born into a poor fishing family. His father was attached to the seafaring profession, while his mother saved up a few fish to sell at the market, and also made the traditional fish sauce of the village. During the years of studying and working in Japan, exposed to modern production, Mr. Nguyen Van Gia dreamed of returning to his hometown to develop the traditional profession. He wanted the drops of fish sauce from his hometown not only to be in jars and pots but to have its own brand, reaching far into the market.

Mr. Gia said: “In 2019, I started building a 650 m2 factory to make fish sauce. At that time, the facility only produced about 1,000 - 2,000 liters/year, my wife and I both produced and marketed. We traveled all over Ha Tinh, I drove, my wife sat on the back of the motorbike carrying a barrel of fish sauce, and wherever we went, we offered our products. Thanks to that, I had the opportunity to meet and receive guidance from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment - PV) to build OCOP products. In addition to the factory, we invested in an additional cold storage (30 tons); a system of machinery to make additional squid sausage products; researched and applied technology to stir up fish sauce to ensure better quality... In 2022, the two products Hoang Gia Lan Fish Sauce and Hoang Gia Lan Squid Sauce will both meet the 3-star OCOP standard”.

After 3 years, the fish sauce production output of the Cooperative increased 10 times (reaching 15,000 - 20,000 liters/year), expanding more than 10 products from seafood processing: fish cakes, fried shrimp, shrimp rolls, mackerel, dried shrimp..., revenue reached about 2.5 billion per year. The Cooperative's products are available at clean agricultural product stores in the province and go to Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City... Notably, not only doing business alone, Mr. Nguyen Van Gia continues to raise the value of OCOP to a new level by linking with more than 20 fishing households, building a closed value chain from fishing, processing, and consuming products.

At the same time as Hoang Gia Lan Cooperative, Thach Ban Environmental Cooperative (Thach Khe commune) also changed direction, expanded multi-industry, multi-profession, multi-product production, produced and built the Long Ngam Sim Wine brand that meets 3-star OCOP standards. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Director of the Cooperative said: "My colleagues and I have invested more than 400 million VND in a wine production line to exploit and expand local raw materials. In 3 years, since 2022, Long Ngam Sim Wine products have met 3-star OCOP standards, the market has begun to expand to provinces such as Nghe An, Quang Binh (old), and in particular, a distributor has been established in Dong Nai (old). Although facing quite high competition and strict production conditions, the Cooperative's products are still quite stable in the markets, ensuring a capacity of about 5,000 liters/year".
With a bold and progressive mindset, from 2024, the Cooperative will lease land and accumulate to produce 98 sticky rice on an area of 12 hectares to create a raw material area, while contributing to the locality in realizing the journey of modern agricultural production on poor land. “Partly because of our own lives, partly because we also have the will to create a breakthrough to change the face of Thach Khe land, which is full of difficulties. “All beginnings are difficult”, the summer-autumn rice crop suffered heavy damage after storm No. 5 and continued flooding after storm No. 10, but we are still determined to start again in time for cultivation in the spring crop of 2026, build large fields, and develop more local agricultural products” - Mr. Hung shared.

In fact, Thach Khe commune is located in the coastal area, suffers from many natural disasters, has a low starting point, and its economy depends mainly on fisheries and agriculture. In addition, the problem of the Thach Khe iron mine exploitation project has been prolonged, directly affecting people's lives as well as hindering and slowing down the socio-economic development, making the already difficult commune even more difficult.
In the period of 2020 - 2025, the product value per hectare of cultivated land and aquaculture water surface will reach 120.6 million VND/ha, the poverty rate will be 3.6%, the commune will have only 3 products meeting 3-star OCOP standards...
Thach Khe commune currently has a fairly large area of 46.32 km 2 and a population of 17,528 people. After merging from 3 old communes (Dinh Ban, Thach Khe and Thach Hai), it has created favorable conditions for the locality to build a more comprehensive, multi-sector, multi-sector socio-economic development program, promoting the total strength of its strengths, especially promoting the values of the sea, rivers, fields, mountains, historical relics, and cultural traditions according to a more sustainable value chain. Along with the orientation of green development, organic and circular agriculture, we will focus on developing economic models associated with building OCOP products and developing local tourism. In the goal of striving, by 2030, we will build 20 products that meet OCOP standards.
To create a "pedestal" for the people, the commune is focusing on completing the review and adjustment of the master plan for socio-economic development in the period of 2025 - 2030, the general plan and the plans of sectors and fields to ensure that they are consistent with the general development trend; mobilizing all resources to develop infrastructure, attract investment; promoting science and technology... Notably, in October, the commune established the Commune Business Association, bringing together 40 enterprises, cooperatives, and production households, creating a bridge connecting the government and the business community, promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship, linking production and consumption. These will be important driving forces for developing the private economy and forming a value chain of typical local goods.
