The event took place on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25); the opening of the 16 Days of Action Global Campaign and the National Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in Vietnam.

Domestic violence, especially violence against women and girls, still exists in many places around the world as well as in Vietnam. Results from the 2019 National Survey on Violence against Women show that there are still challenges that need to be addressed together, such as nearly 63% of women have experienced at least one form of violence by a husband/partner in their lifetime; 31.6% experienced violence within the 12 months prior to the survey; the economic costs caused by domestic violence are huge (on average, women lose 26% of their annual income, and the total loss is equivalent to 1.81% of Vietnam's GDP)...
In addition, in the context of rapid digital transformation in Vietnam, forms of domestic violence are also changing. Behaviors such as online harassment, digital surveillance, threats, or sharing sensitive images without consent are on the rise at an alarming rate. These forms of online violence perpetuate manipulation and coercion. This reality shows the need to strengthen prevention, promote early reporting, and expand victim-centered support systems to respond to all forms of violence.
