Building schools on the border

On July 18, 2025, the Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu signed and issued Notice 81 - the conclusion of the Politburo on the policy of investing in building schools for border communes. The Notice stated that at the meeting on July 17 to consider the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Training on the policy of investing in building schools for border communes in the mainland, the Politburo concluded and agreed on the policy of investing in building boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in 248 border communes in the mainland.

On the evening of July 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting to implement the investment policy to build schools for border communes. The Prime Minister also requested that the campaign to build 100 schools in the first phase in 100 border communes inland be completed by August 30, 2026. These schools will be models for further implementation on a large scale, completing the investment goal of building 248 schools in the next 2-3 years.

Looking at the above timelines, it shows that less than 10 days after the Politburo issued the policy, the Prime Minister immediately directed this "lightning campaign". This is not only a timely and drastic policy response, but also a clear demonstration that: We are putting people, especially the future generations of the border areas, at the center of development.

This also vividly demonstrates the assertion of General Secretary To Lam at the National Assembly's group discussion session (on the proposal to amend and supplement a number of articles of the 2013 Constitution) at the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly, on May 5, that: "Focusing on solving and developing culture, society, education and health, we must develop the socio -economy to be enough, ensuring resources for development. Along with that is the requirement to continue improving people's lives, the country develops and the people must enjoy those achievements...".

Having been attached to the border for many years, the biggest impression for us is that in front of the border posts, especially in the Northern border, there is always a stele recording the names of martyrs, whose names are engraved on the stele, mostly people with the surnames Sung, Thao, Vang, Lo..., names that let us know that those martyrs were born and raised here, and then with their own lives, they sacrificed for the peace of the Fatherland.

We met tens of thousands of Mong, Thai, Giay, Tay… ethnic children crossing mountains and forests every day to go to school and thought, when they grow up, when the country needs them, they will be the first to use their bodies to protect the Fatherland, just like the names of their fathers and brothers are inscribed on that sacred stele!

Therefore, the "lightning-fast campaign" to build the first 100 boarding schools for the border out of a total of 248 schools that must be completed before the new school year 2026-2027 truly brings special emotions not only to the people in the border areas but to all Vietnamese people.

Although the Party and the State have paid much attention to the past years, compared to the lowlands, it is clear that the people in the border areas still face many difficulties that cannot be fully explained. They are the living shield of the border in both wartime and peacetime.

Therefore, today, when the country has the conditions, building boarding schools for students and teachers is not only "paying back" but also the beginning of a comprehensive development strategy. Not only is it a physical facility that meets the educational requirements in the new era - the era of national development, but investing in education for the border today is creating a position of people's hearts in the new period.

Information about this “lightning campaign” shows us the speed of a constructive and active state, a strong commitment that no one will be left behind. That the border is not only the starting point to plant the markers of the Fatherland’s sovereignty, but this is also the place where the source of hope for the future needs to be opened through schools.
