On the morning of November 1, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lai, Party Secretary of Tra Tan Commune, Da Nang City (formerly Bac Tra My District, Quang Nam ), sent Tuoi Tre Online a clip recording the scene of a hill that had just collapsed, with soil falling down while an excavator was scooping up soil and clearing the landslide site.

The clip recorded the scene of a person driving an excavator to clear the landslide site when suddenly a large amount of soil from the hill continued to slide down, burying the excavator.

According to Mr. Lai, this landslide is at Km 71 of National Highway 40B in Tra Giac village, Tra Tan commune.

He said the landslide occurred on October 30. Yesterday, the National Highway 40B management unit dispatched an excavator to scoop up the soil and clear the road for temporary traffic.

This morning at 7:35, while the excavator driver continued to dig soil and clear the road, suddenly a large amount of soil and rock on the hill continued to slide down.

Fortunately the driver was safe, but the excavator was stuck in the mud.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Tra Tan commune, as of the afternoon of October 31, 52 houses in the commune were affected by landslides. Of these, 32 houses were completely buried.

In the commune's villages, there are more than 34 large and small landslides, with more continuing landslides. The main road, National Highway 40B, has many serious landslides.

The forces have made efforts to repair route 40B, which has been open since noon on October 31.

Due to landslides, the commune also urgently evacuated 10 houses with 54 people in Tra Giac village to live at the village Cultural House.

In this commune, many villages are still isolated due to landslides, people lack food and face many difficulties.

Dozens of military , police, militia, and youth forces carried goods and waded through landslides, some more than 7km away, to provide supplies to people in dire need.

On the morning of October 31, the commune established 4 working groups led by the Secretary, Chairman and leaders of the commune to go to 4 affected villages to directly support the distribution of food, medicine and medical examination for the people.
