Among the 5 traditional groups (A00, A01, B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), C00 (Literature, History, Geography), D01), group D01 has the most abundant source of candidates. Calculating the total number of candidates taking the 2 education programs in 2018 and 2006, the whole country has over 360,000 candidates taking the D01 group. The total number of candidates taking all 3 subjects in group A00 is over 165,000. The total number of candidates taking the C00 group is over 310,000; group A01 is nearly 149,000, and B00 is over 46,000.
This year, because candidates can only choose 2 subjects and the number of subjects to take the exam is 4 (last year they could choose 3 subjects and the number of subjects to take the exam was 6), the number of candidates taking the exam in each traditional group decreased by over 50%. Group B00 in particular decreased by 87%, group D01 decreased by 60%.
Although the number of candidates has decreased compared to last year, the D01 group this year has a high level of competition. Experts predict that the benchmark score of this group of majors may decrease by 1 - 3 points. In which, the sharpest decrease is in the middle-ranking schools. Group C00 has the second largest number of candidates taking the exam, but the number of majors for admission is very small and the quota for this group in each major is not much. Majors enrolling in this group include Literature Pedagogy, History Pedagogy, Geography Pedagogy or History - Geography Pedagogy, journalism, communication, other social sciences ... Therefore, this group has the fiercest level of competition in this year's admission season. It is predicted that the benchmark score of group C00 will continue to "hit the top" compared to all the remaining groups. Because the average score of this group is the highest, 19.71 points.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the score distribution of subjects in the admission combination is different, especially the score distribution of combination A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and the score distribution of combination D01 (Math, Literature, English). Accordingly, the average score of combination A00 is 0.9 points higher than combination D01, the median score is 0.79 points higher.
In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will use 11 admission combinations: group 1 includes combinations A00, A01, A02, B00, D07 (Math, Chemistry, English), D26 (Math, Physics, German), D28 (Math, Physics, Japanese), D29 (Math, Physics, French) and K01 (Math, Literature, Physics/Chemistry/Biology/IT); group 2 includes D01 and D04 (Math, Literature, Chinese). Group 1 is for admission to technical majors. Each major at Hanoi University of Science and Technology determines a common score for the combinations. Similarly, group 2 is for admission to economic, education, and foreign language majors using combinations that also do not have a difference in scores. However, for majors that simultaneously use combinations of both groups above, the standard score of group 2 will be 0.5 points lower than group 1.
According to Mr. Hai, the school determines the minimum score for receiving applications at 2 levels according to the 2 majors being trained at the school. The technical major is 19.5/30 points (with the method of considering the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam), 55/100 points with talent consideration and 46.95/100 points with thinking assessment test scores. The economic, education and foreign language majors have the minimum scores of 19 points, 55 points and 46.48 points respectively.
Based on the score distribution and admission data of previous years, Hanoi University of Science and Technology predicts the admission scores for regular university training programs in 2025 for candidates' reference. The highest predicted benchmark scores are for 5 majors (from 26.5 - 28 points): Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Digital Space Security, Control Engineering - Automation, Microelectronics Engineering and Nanotechnology, Information Technology (Vietnam - Japan program). The highest benchmark score in 2024 of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is 28.53 points. Thus, the predicted benchmark score this year is lower than the benchmark score in 2024. The lowest predicted benchmark score is 19 points.
Faced with the fluctuations in the score distribution of this year's combinations, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai said that there are many opportunities for candidates. Candidates consider the minimum score to receive the application of the school they want to enroll in, and choose a suitable major. For Hanoi University of Science and Technology, candidates base their registration on two factors, the minimum score and the predicted standard score. According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, from July 16 to 5:00 p.m. on July 28, in addition to registering their wishes to enter university, candidates can completely register for admission to colleges right on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training. After registering their wishes, from July 29 to 5:00 p.m. on August 5, candidates will pay the admission fee. From August 13 to 5:00 p.m. on August 20, colleges will download data and organize the admission. At 5:00 p.m. on August 22, schools will announce the first round of admissions. Candidates will confirm their admission online until August 30. From September to December, colleges will consider additional admissions.
