As a locality with great potential and strengths in agricultural production, Xich Tho commune (Nho Quan district) has paid attention to supporting and guiding people to develop and select effective economic models to promote local economic development.
The model of growing clean melons in greenhouses of Mr. Nguyen Van Phong's family, Minh Hong village, Xich Tho commune is a new direction in local agricultural development.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phong said: With the desire to get rich in my hometown, using agricultural land for high economic efficiency, I have chosen the direction of developing clean agriculture, meeting the current social needs. Through learning from the experience of growing melons according to clean standards in greenhouses of a friend in Tam Diep city, I have built a model at home since February 2023 on an area of 3 sao of agricultural land that was previously used to grow corn, potatoes, cassava, etc.
My family's model grows 2,700 melons in a greenhouse, using organic fertilizers and an automatic irrigation system to ensure proper technical processes and humidity to help the plants grow and develop well. Initially, I invested about 700 million VND in the model. According to calculations, each crop yields about 4 tons of melons, with a selling price of 30-35 thousand VND/kg, earning about 100 million VND, deducting expenses, each crop earns about 60-70 million VND. Each year, the model will harvest 3 crops, deducting expenses, earning about 200 million VND.
The comprehensive economic model of Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Hong Quang village, Xich Tho commune is also an economic development direction that can be replicated locally because this model is developed based on the advantages of the commune's hilly land.

Mr. Nguyen Van Binh said: Through research in many localities in the province and some other provinces with natural conditions similar to Xich Tho, I found that hilly land is suitable for growing fruit trees. With the help of the locality, the direction of the District Department of Agriculture, the Provincial Cooperative Union, in 2017, I chose to build a hill garden economic model to grow fruit trees including: guava, longan, grapefruit, sim combined with raising black chickens on an area of 31 thousand m2.
Mr. Binh has researched, studied and drawn his own experience in caring for plants according to each plant's characteristics and growth process, thereby having a way to organize production, care and harvest appropriately, bringing the best results.
Currently, Mr. Binh's family's model has 700 guava trees, 700 grapefruit trees, 100 sim trees, more than 100 black chickens... Because the investment is new, the model has only harvested half of the crop area, deducting expenses for an income of over 200 million VND/year.
In the near future, Mr. Binh plans to build a model of agricultural development combined with tourism , targeting students, helping them experience and understand more about agriculture. Currently, Mr. Binh's family's economic model has also been learned and followed by a number of households in Xich Tho commune.
Comrade Pham Van Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Head of the Mass Mobilization Block of Xich Tho Commune, said: The Party Committee of Xich Tho Commune has issued resolutions and propagated to all classes of people to effectively implement economic model conversion. Currently, in the commune, there are many highly effective models such as fruit tree planting model, greenhouse model, comprehensive economic model, livestock model, etc.
The commune also regularly cares, encourages, and assigns organizations and unions to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of households in economic development. Coordinates with departments, offices, and branches of the district to support seeds, capital, and create conditions for households to invest in production. In particular, households can also borrow capital from the "Farmer Support" fund, each household borrows 50 million VND to buy seeds, capital, and production tools.
Currently, in Xich Tho commune, there are over 20 economic development models, increasing people's income, contributing to poverty reduction and building advanced new rural communes.
