On the evening of October 29, Mr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Chairman of the People's Committee of Huong Tra Ward (Hue City) - said that the police and military forces of the ward are coordinating with a rescue team to search for missing people swept away by floodwaters.
Before that, at around 4:00 p.m., due to rising floodwaters, the section of National Highway 1 in front of Phu Oc gas station, Huong Tra ward, was heavily flooded with strong currents.
Two people on a motorbike were swept away by the water. One person was able to swim back, but the other was swept away and went missing.
At that time, many people witnessed and tried to rescue but were unable to react in time due to the strong water flow and the incident happening so quickly.
At noon the same day, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong also directed forces to search for a young man who was swept away by the flood while pulling a boat and walking across a field along the old Duong Thanh street, Thanh Thuy ward.
However, the search area is deeply flooded, causing many difficulties for the work of approaching and searching for victims while the water is rising again and the terrain is wide.
According to the Hue City Hydrometeorological Station, floods on rivers in Hue City are rising rapidly again, the water level at 3:00 p.m. on October 29 on the Huong River at Kim Long station was 4.57 m (flood peak at 8:00 p.m. on October 27 reached 5.05 m, the second highest, 0.76 m lower than in 1999).
On Bo River at Phu Oc station 4.97m (flood peak at 2:00 p.m. on October 27 reached 5.25m, exceeding the historical level in 2020 by 0.01m).
In the next 12 hours, flood levels on rivers will continue to rise, possibly peaking at a level 0.1 - 0.2m lower than the flood peak on October 28, then slowly decreasing.
