The year of the Horse arrives in the port city amidst the gentle pink hues of peach blossoms and the fragrant aroma of freshly made sticky rice cakes spreading throughout the streets. In the throngs of people reuniting in their homeland, there is not only the joy of family reunion, but also a wealth of affection, responsibility, and the enduring, silent contributions of the Hai Phong Vietnamese expatriate community towards their motherland.
Through persistent efforts
As one of the earliest established branches, the Liaison Association of Overseas Vietnamese in the Republic of France, under the Hai Phong City Association of Overseas Vietnamese, has maintained its activities for over three decades.
In particular, for the past 10 years, the "Charity Porridge Pot" model at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital has become a heartwarming symbol of the generosity of Hai Phong expatriates living far from home. Regularly every Wednesday morning, 100-200 free servings of hot porridge are delivered directly to poor patients and those in difficult circumstances receiving treatment at the hospital.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tri, Head of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in the Republic of France, shared: "No matter where they live or work, the overseas Vietnamese from Hai Phong in France always share a common desire to contribute to their homeland through practical actions."
In Idaho (USA), Mr. Tran Trung Dung, Chairman of the Hai Phong Vietnamese Association in Idaho, along with other Vietnamese expatriates there, have dedicated many years to building a spacious temple that serves as a common cultural and spiritual space for the Vietnamese community, and also provides a venue for Vietnamese language classes for the children of Hai Phong expatriates.
Thanks to that perseverance and dedication, every time Tet (Vietnamese New Year) comes around, activities to preserve Vietnamese culture become even more meaningful.
Tet, the festival of family reunion - a festival of faith and connection.

Hai Phong residents abroad are an inseparable part of the national community in general, and of Hai Phong people in particular, possessing great potential in economics , knowledge, and people-to-people diplomacy. Currently, Hai Phong city has approximately 47,000 people living, studying, and working in 56 countries and territories, many of whom are entrepreneurs, scientists, and intellectuals with prestige and standing in their host countries. Wherever they are, they always look towards their homeland with their intellect, resources, and affection.
From 2003 to the present, the total value of humanitarian and charitable activities contributed by Hai Phong residents abroad to their homeland has reached over 15 billion VND. Regarding remittances, the period from 2015 to 2022 averaged 258.5 million USD per year, and from 2023 to the present, it continues to record an impressive figure, averaging approximately 310 million USD.
According to Mr. Le Van Quy, Chairman of the Association of Overseas Vietnamese in Hai Phong City: "These figures not only reflect the economic potential, but also demonstrate the trust, attachment, and responsibility of overseas Vietnamese towards their homeland."
