ANTD.VN - In 2023, the total agricultural export value will reach 53.1 billion USD, a growth of 3.83%, a bright spot for the entire economic sector.
Regarding the export situation of the entire agricultural sector in 2023, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that despite many difficulties, especially by the end of November 2023, the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development were still concerned about not reaching the target of 53 billion USD that the sector set in early 2023, but by the end of December, the entire sector's export had reached 53.1 billion USD, the trade surplus reached a record 12.07 billion USD, an increase of 43.7%, accounting for over 42.5% of the country's trade surplus. The total added value (GDP) of the entire sector increased sharply, estimated at 3.83%. This is the highest growth rate in the past 10 years.
Some export items increased to record highs such as: Vegetables and fruits reached 5.69 billion USD, up 69.2%, rice reached 4.78 billion USD, up 38.4%).
Six export items brought in over 3 billion USD: Fruits and vegetables reached 5.69 billion USD, up 69.2%; Rice 4.78 billion USD, up 38.4%; Cashew nuts 3.63 billion USD, up 17.6%; Coffee 4.18 billion USD, up 3.1%; Shrimp 3.38 billion USD, down 21.7%; Wood and wood products 13.37 billion USD, down 16.5%.
Mr. Tien assessed that no year has seen such good results in fruit and vegetable exports as this year. Of which, durian exports alone will earn 2.25 billion USD in 2023, a sharp increase compared to 2022. In addition, for the first time, Vietnam sold 10.3 million carbon credits to the World Bank, earning 1,250 billion VND.
Mr. Tien shared that, in the midst of numerous difficulties, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development based on consumer demand to flexibly and accurately adjust production to achieve export results of 53.1 billion USD.
Rice output in 2023 will reach 43.4 million tons, up 1.7% compared to 2022, although the rice growing area will decrease by 9,000 hectares. Thus, Vietnam's rice yield will increase by an average of 1 quintal/ha.

In addition, in 2023, the agricultural sector successfully organized many major events of national and international scale (International Rice Festival, Craft Village Conservation and Development Festival, ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Disaster Prevention...), thereby helping to promote the image and brand of agricultural, forestry and fishery products domestically, regionally and internationally, promoting the consumption of agricultural products; especially the launch of the Project on Sustainable Development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assessed that the economy will continue to face many difficulties and challenges, such as: prices of input materials for agricultural, forestry and fishery production remain high, diseases on crops and livestock pose a potential risk of outbreak; unusual rains and floods, more severe heat, risk of drought and severe water shortages due to the impact of El Nino...; especially the impact of conflicts and instability in the world.
However, the agriculture and rural development sector still sets a target of GDP growth of 3.0 - 3.5%. Total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products is about 54 - 55 billion USD. The rate of communes meeting new rural standards is 80%...
