The deadline for planting summer-autumn rice is June 20th.

(CT) - The Can Tho City Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection announced that, following the directive from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) regarding the 2026 summer-autumn rice crop production, planting in the city's three-crop production areas will be concentrated and completed before June 10th; planting in the two-crop production areas will be completed no later than June 20th. Farmers are advised to avoid late planting in areas at risk of water shortage at the end of the season. They should proactively store water in the fields and operate the irrigation system flexibly. Planting should be concentrated and simultaneous to avoid pests; the planting season should not be extended or planting should be done when production conditions are not yet ensured.

For rain-fed areas like My Xuyen, Long Phu, Tran De, Soc Trang, etc., local authorities encourage farmers to only plant when there is sufficient water in the irrigation canals to support production. They recommend applying water-saving irrigation methods and alternating wet and dry irrigation. Farmers are advised to use high-quality rice varieties, fragrant rice varieties, and specialty rice varieties when sowing. Priority should be given to short-duration varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases and adaptable to adverse conditions.

To date, farmers in Can Tho City have planted 159,324 hectares of summer-autumn rice, reaching 59% of the plan, including 77,849 hectares in the seedling stage, 74,139 hectares in the tillering stage, and 7,336 hectares in the heading stage. The main rice varieties planted include ST 24, ST 25, RVT, Dai Thom 8, OM 18, OM 4900, OM 5451, etc.
