This year, the warm weather during the lychee tree's bud differentiation and flowering period affected the fruit setting rate, resulting in a lower lychee yield compared to previous years. However, thanks to higher purchase prices, lychee growers are still very enthusiastic. These days, the atmosphere of harvesting, transporting, and selling early-ripening lychees in orchards throughout Yen Tu ward is bustling.
Mr. Tran Manh Cuong is one of the early-ripening lychee growers in Phuong Nam, Yen Tu ward. His family currently owns 2 hectares of land with approximately 600 lychee trees, cultivated on reclaimed land in the Vanh Kieu 2 area since 1990. Thanks to the brackish water along the dike, rich in alluvial soil, the lychees in this area have beautiful appearance, uniform fruit size, and consistent quality. This is also one of about 50 lychee orchards in the Vanh Kieu 2 area that are expected to yield high productivity this year. With an average yield of about 100 kg of fruit per tree, Mr. Cuong's family expects to harvest approximately 60 tons of lychees this year; with an average selling price of around 35,000 VND/kg, the revenue from the orchard is estimated at nearly 2 billion VND before deducting labor and fertilizer costs.

Mr. Cuong said: "Early-ripening lychee trees thrive in the soil conditions of this area and yield much higher economic returns than rice production. Currently, many rice paddies in the Vanh Kieu 2 area are lying fallow due to inefficient cultivation. Therefore, people hope the local authorities will study and plan to expand the lychee growing area to increase income and develop the economy. To date, my family has harvested about 80% of our early-ripening lychee crop, and this year's lychee harvest is considered quite favorable, with stable demand and good prices, so we farmers are all very happy."

Yen Tu Ward currently has about 1,000 households growing early-ripening lychees, with a total harvest area of approximately 350 hectares this year. Compared to previous years, Phuong Nam lychees ripen about 20 days earlier this year, creating a significant competitive advantage for local agricultural products in the market. Currently, most of the lychee growing area in the ward is cultivated by farmers according to VietGAP standards, applying scientific and technical methods to farming and ensuring product traceability.
Ms. Pham Thi Tip (Hiep Thanh area, Yen Tu ward) said: While many other lychee-growing regions still have green fruit, Phuong Nam early-ripening lychees have already entered the harvest season. This year's selling price is also 10,000-15,000 VND/kg higher than in previous years. At the beginning of the season, lychees were purchased at around 50,000 VND/kg, and now, after more than 20 days of harvesting, the price has remained at around 30,000 VND/kg, so the farmers are very happy.
From inefficient rice-growing land affected by saline and acidic soil, the conversion to concentrated cultivation of early-ripening Phuong Nam lychees has brought about a significant transformation for the people of Yen Tu ward. With the support of the province and local authorities in building the brand, maintaining the planting area code, and applying safe production processes, the early-ripening lychee fruit is increasingly asserting its value, increasing farmers' income, and creating a competitive advantage in the domestic market and aiming for export.

Mr. Phan Minh Tam, Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Yen Tu Ward, said: "In recent years, thanks to the regular professional guidance of the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment), along with the close cooperation of the local government with the people, the cultivation of early-ripening Phuong Nam lychees has become increasingly effective. In addition, the irrigation system has received investment, and the people's active application of advanced techniques in production has contributed to improving the yield and quality of the lychee fruit. This year's lychee harvest, although the total production of the ward reached about 1,600 tons, a decrease of more than 300 tons compared to last year, the total revenue is estimated at 64-65 billion VND, further affirming the economic effectiveness of early-ripening lychees in the area."
