MV Bac Bling is one of the longest-standing Vietnamese music products recently.
Until July 17, MV Jump BlackPink's "Love Yourself: Tear" is holding on to the No. 1 spot on YouTube's global trending music videos chart after a week of release.
In Vietnam, in addition to the MV Jump, the top 3 also includes the mashup "Drunk Sound - Luc Hai Vi Vuong" by Phuong My Chi - Kha Lau in the semi-final 1 of Sing! Asia 2025 and "Ga San Ca" by Lam Bao Ngoc, Quynh Anh Shyn, MAIQUINN, Saabirose, Quang Hung MasterD in "Em xinh say hi" episode 5.
According to Variety , BlackPink's MV may be the last name to hold the number 1 position before the Trending feature is removed.
Similarly, the mashups Tuy am - Luc hai vi vuong and Ga san ca are likely to be the last products on the trending chart in Vietnam before the Trending button is "killed" on July 21.

The Vietnamese music market will change
According to information posted on YouTube's blog recently, Trending was first launched in 2015, divided into four sub-categories: Now, Music, Gaming and Movies - "updating what's trending on YouTube, helping users discover the latest music videos , trailers, comedy clips and everything else people are watching right now".
However, YouTube will remove Trending and the Trending Now list, instead focusing on YouTube Charts - a specialized, personalized ranking system for each field such as music, podcasts, and trending movie trailers.
The platform will continue to add more category-specific rankings over time.
The move comes amid growing reliance on short videos, search suggestions, social media conversations, and rival platforms like TikTok, a shift that has seen traffic to Trending decline significantly, especially over the past five years.
On the other hand, some independent creators expressed frustration with the old Trending system, arguing that big brands and traditional media accounts often dominated the list, making it difficult for them to get noticed despite having high views.
When mentioning top trending MVs, we cannot help but mention Son Tung M-TP's MV "We of the Present"
In Vietnam, top trending has long been an important measure to evaluate the success and popularity of a music product (mainly popular music). Many artists take this as their main goal every time they release a new MV.
A MV reaching a high position not only brings fame but also promotes the artist's brand value. There are artists who live "well" and rise in rank thanks to their top 1 products.
Opportunity for high quality content
As the composer of Bắc Bling by Hòa Minzy - which was once a top trending music in Vietnam and globally on YouTube, musician Tuấn Cry told Tuổi Trẻ that being on top of trending is not necessarily the best assessment.
But that is also one of the bases showing the level of success and spread of a project.
Tang Duy Tan's "Cutting Sorrow in Half" also once ranked high on the trending list.
Tuan Cry noted that the greatest value of being in the top is "it makes it easier to do communication, promote the project and help the audience access the product faster and more directly".
On the other hand, he also "feels that people are too dependent on and follow trending tops, not caring about larger values. Trending tops are both beneficial and harmful."
With the music market almost "tied" to the glitz of numbers, when the Trending section is discontinued, the Vietnamese music market will have to face major changes in approaching, evaluating products as well as artists' dedication.
Tuan Cry believes that "the Vietnamese market in the coming time will not rely on top trending but will rely on quality music streaming platforms. At the same time, more prestigious music charts will gradually appear; music will also be evaluated from many more angles and aspects."
YouTube's shift reflects modern content consumption trends, where viewers want content recommended based on their personal preferences, rather than a compiled list that can be manipulated by advertising or "push" campaigns.

Music critic Nguyen Quang Long said YouTube's new move is in line with the needs and serves listeners better, while opening up opportunities for the Vietnamese music market to improve in quality.
Mr. Long shared that Vietnamese music once had a Pho Duc Phuong, Tran Tien, Ngoc Dai, Le Minh Son, Duc Tri... like no other.
But often "catching" on viral words and keywords, creating trends, popular music on the market today is similar in musical color, lyrics, melody...
"Hopefully, the specialization and personalization of YouTube Charts in the future will overcome that "trendy" and "immediate" nature, thereby creating more musical identity and personality," he said.
For Tuan Cry, "top trending is not something to compete for, the most important thing is still the quality of the product. The end of top trending also helps many artists and audiences to be less dependent on trends and to see Vietnamese music more broadly and fully, less virtual".
Vietnamese popular music has had many MVs in the top trending: Bong bong bang bang (365daband), Vi me anh ban chia tay (Miu Le - Karik), Can mot ly do (K-ICM), Song gio (Jack - K-ICM), Chung ta cua hien tai, Hay trao cho anh (both by Son Tung M-TP), Hoa no khong mau (Hoai Lam), Turn on love (Hoa Minzy - Tang Duy Tan), Cut two sorrows (Tang Duy Tan), BlackJack (Soobin - Binz), Bac Bling (Hoa Minzy)...
Among them, there are many MVs that are controversial about quality or involved in copyright and plagiarism scandals.
