Mr Zelenskyy's decision was announced after he met Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, with questions about how the counter-offensive in the east and south of the country in its war with Russia was going.

“In today’s meeting with Defense Minister Umerov, priorities were set,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address. “There is little time left to wait for results. We need to act quickly on the upcoming changes.”
President Zelenskyy said he had removed Major General Tetiana Ostashchenko from her role as chief of the Armed Forces Medical Service. She will be replaced by Major General Anatoliy Kazmirchuk, head of a military hospital in Kiev.
“The task is clear, as has been repeatedly stressed, especially in the combat medical community, we need a fundamentally new level of medical support for our soldiers,” Mr Zelenskyy said.
This includes a range of issues - better tourniquets, digitalization and better communications, the president added. Minister Umerov acknowledged the above top personnel changes and put digitalization, "tactical medicine" and personnel rotation as top priorities.
The Ukrainian military has reported progress in retaking areas in the east and south of the country, and last week confirmed that it had taken control of areas on the east bank of the Dnipro River in the southern Kherson region.
Ukraine's commander-in-chief, General Valery Zaluzhniy, said in an essay published this month that the war was entering a new phase of attrition and that Ukraine needed more sophisticated technology in its conflict with Russia.
While saying progress on the battlefield would take time, Mr Zelenskyy denied the war was at a stalemate and called on Kiev's Western partners, mainly the US and the European Union, to maintain their level of military support.
