The main function of Yen So regulating lake is to temporarily store rainwater to regulate rainfall and prevent flooding in Hanoi, as well as to regulate the climate. The lake is surrounded by a system of trees such as acacia, flamboyant, and crape myrtle. When it rains, rainwater and wastewater from Hanoi are drained through a river system that flows through the Yen So Lake area.
