In an effort to maintain the aesthetic, you try to hide trash cans in a place where few people see or disguise them. But not every place in the house is safe to place a trash can.
Under the sink
To reduce odors and avoid loss of beauty, some people prefer to store trash in unused cabinet space, such as under the kitchen sink.
However, Matt Hagens, general contractor and founder of the kitchen and bathroom research unit, advises against doing so. "Sink pipes in there have the potential to leak, drenched garbage, stink and cause harm," Hagens said.

Next to the dishwasher
According to Jay Sanders, a home contractor and owner of a home remodeling company, you should never leave a trash can next to the dishwasher. Humidity and heat emitted from the machine can be hazardous to health.
“Storing trash cans in humid, hot, or high humidity environments is ideal for mold growth. It is dangerous to health and over time will break down the structure of the house,” Sanders stated.
Near air conditioner
Ahmad Jamal, a professional cleaning manager, says one of the biggest mistakes homeowners can make is leaving trash cans near the air conditioner. "This action makes it possible for unpleasant odors to spread from the trash can to the entire house through the ventilation system," warns Jamal.
Where the light shines directly
If you're thinking of hiding the trash can in any empty corner it can find, make sure it's not near a window. Muffetta Krueger, a cleaning expert, says leaving your litter in an area exposed to direct sunlight can easily accelerate the decomposition process.
“This location releases odors, which attract flies and other pests. Additionally, extreme heat can cause trash bags to burst or leak, adding to the mess and potentially causing pollution,” Krueger said.
