615 billion VND to support the Cuban people

The campaign to support the Cuban people, chaired by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross, in coordination with agencies and units, has attracted widespread response, mobilizing 615 billion VND in 65 days. The information was announced at the Closing Ceremony of the Campaign to Support the Cuban People and the Awarding Ceremony, and the Performance of the Award-Winning Work of the Campaign to Compose the Song "Vietnam - Cuba, Forever the Song of Solidarity and Friendship" held on October 18 in Hanoi.

With the theme "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship", the program was implemented from August 13 to October 16, achieving results nearly 10 times higher than the initial target of 65 billion VND - the minimum mobilization level to support the Cuban people to overcome some difficulties. Immediately after the national launching ceremony, within just 30 hours, the program completed its set goal, demonstrating the strong spread of Vietnam - Cuba solidarity in the hearts of the people of the whole country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front affirmed that this is a meaningful program, demonstrating the noble proletarian international spirit and the loyal affection between the two brotherly peoples of Vietnam and Cuba.

"We all feel very clearly that from the elderly to the children, from the mountains to the plains, all classes and social strata have supported the program with all gratitude, appreciation, and cherishing the close brotherly friendship between Vietnam and Cuba," said Mr. Do Van Chien.

Along with the material support, the songwriting campaign "Vietnam - Cuba, forever echoing the song of solidarity and friendship" jointly organized by the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , the Vietnam Musicians Association and the Literature and Arts Times has received the response of hundreds of professional and non-professional musicians and artists across the country, creating many emotional works praising the Vietnam - Cuba friendship. Many songs of high artistic value were selected, performed and awarded at the Closing Ceremony, as an artistic declaration of the faithful friendship between the two nations.

According to Mr. Do Van Chien, that shows that the program "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" has touched the hearts of all Vietnamese people, arousing spiritual strength, creative inspiration and pride in the special and rare friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Affirming that the Program was a great success, exceeding the expectations of the organizing committee, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front, Mr. Do Van Chien respectfully thanked compatriots, cadres, soldiers, businesses, political and social organizations at home and abroad for joining hands to respond to the program; thanked the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Literature and Arts Times and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam for their close coordination and companionship; thanked the press team for contributing to spreading positive, humane energy and beautiful stories about Vietnamese sentiment.

He stated that the success of the "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" program has opened up many new and suitable ways of thinking and doing to effectively implement the three pillars of foreign affairs: Party foreign affairs, State foreign affairs, and people-to-people diplomacy between Vietnam and Cuba to foster and elevate to a new height the traditional friendship, as close as blood brothers between Vietnam and Cuba, to become increasingly strong and beautiful.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed his deep gratitude for the solidarity and brotherhood that the Vietnamese people have shown to Cuba. He said that the mobilized resources - including those handed over during the visit to Vietnam by First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz - will be used promptly and effectively to minimize the severe impact of the blockade and economic, trade and financial embargo that the US is imposing.

The Ambassador thanked the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the leadership agencies of the Party and State of Vietnam for initiating, organizing and spreading a humane and noble initiative, demonstrating the loyal friendship between the two peoples.

He emphasized that even when two consecutive big storms hit Vietnam, amid countless difficulties, the Vietnamese people continued to share, helping people in flooded areas and sending all their love to the Cuban people.

The Ambassador also expressed his sincere thanks to the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Vietnam Musicians Association and the co-organizers of the songwriting contest "Vietnam - Cuba, forever the song of solidarity and friendship". He said that the enthusiastic response of Vietnamese artists is a vivid demonstration of the deep sympathy between the two peoples. He believes that these songs will overcome all distances, so that Cubans and Vietnamese people can sing together through the global musical language, towards a strong brotherhood.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, the Vietnam Musicians Association and the Literature and Arts Times summarized the songwriting campaign "Vietnam - Cuba, forever the song of solidarity and friendship". After nearly two months of launching, the Organizing Committee received nearly 140 works from 124 authors nationwide; the Jury selected 22 works for the final round, awarded 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, 10 Encouragement Prizes, along with 4 Dedication Prizes and 2 Companion Prizes. The song collection of 65 typical songs was selected, published and launched right at the Summary Ceremony.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said that the success of the Program not only affirms the loyal and steadfast affection of the Vietnamese people for Cuba, but is also a vivid demonstration of the strength of the great national solidarity bloc, of people-to-people diplomacy, especially humanitarian diplomacy, contributing to consolidating and deepening the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of the two countries.

On this occasion, Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh called on the community to continue spreading the spirit of humanity through the campaign "Join hands to overcome floods" to support people in areas affected by storms No. 10 and 11.

"From the flame of love for the Cuban people, a noble symbol of international solidarity, let us spread it to our homeland, so that national love and compatriotism become a source of strength that unites all people in all circumstances, striving together for the country's development goals, leaving no one behind," he said.
