After the Round of 16 matches concluded, the final eight teams to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2025 U17 World Cup are: Portugal, Switzerland, Morocco, Brazil, Austria, Japan, Italy, and Burkina Faso.
The Round of 16 witnessed dramatic matches and several surprises. Portugal U17 demonstrated their superior strength by crushing Mexico 5-0. Austria U17 also impressed with a resounding 4-0 victory over England U17.
Meanwhile, Brazil and Japan needed a penalty shootout to secure their place in the next round. Brazil U17 defeated France 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
Brazilian goalkeeper João Pedro became a hero by successfully saving two penalties from the opposing team.
Similarly, the Japanese U17 team also defeated North Korea 5-4 in a tense penalty shootout, after the two teams drew 1-1.
The journeys of the African representatives were also noteworthy. The Morocco U17 team had a courageous performance to overcome Mali with a 3-2 victory.
Burkina Faso U17 also secured their place in the quarter-finals after defeating Uganda on penalties.
