De Gea left Old Trafford after more than a decade of service to the Red Devils, winning the Premier League Golden Glove award in his final season at MU.
Initially, Manchester United intended to extend De Gea's contract and demanded a significant pay cut. However, manager Ten Hag then abruptly changed his mind.
De Gea was forced to leave due to his contract expiring, while MU immediately signed two new goalkeepers: Andre Onana (£47 million) and Altay Bayindir (£4.2 million).
Having become a free agent, De Gea was contacted by several teams, including Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia and Real Betis.
However, in the latest development, Al-Shabab is attempting to persuade him to join the club, following their attempts to sign Ivan Rakitic and Miguel Almiron.
After spending half the season without playing, De Gea is eager to return to the pitch. The only minor issue in negotiations is that both sides need to agree on a suitable salary.
Besides De Gea, Al-Shabab is also in talks with Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea, currently on loan at Galatasaray.
The Saudi Arabian team is currently ranked 11th in the Saudi Pro League standings, having won only 1 of their last 7 matches before the winter break.
