Heartwarming scenes at the free vegetable stalls.

On the morning of November 26th, in the communes of Dien Khanh, Dien Dien, and many other areas severely affected by floods, the free vegetable stalls organized by the Provincial Youth Union and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province became a warm haven for hundreds of households after days of heavy rain and flooding.

The joy of bundles of green vegetables

In Dien Lac commune, from early morning, youth union members and Front Committee officials were present to set up stalls. Baskets of fresh green vegetables, bundles of sweet cabbage, spinach, and water spinach were arranged neatly in rows, creating a small, simple but warm market. Everything was free, a heartfelt gift to the people who had just gone through the devastating floods.

A long line of people came to receive vegetables. Residents waded through muddy roads, their hands still stained with mud after cleaning their homes, yet everyone carefully handled each bundle of vegetables, meticulously selecting each bunch of cabbage as if choosing a glimmer of hope to start anew after days of battling the floods. Many residents shared that thanks to the free vegetable stall, they were relieved of some of the financial burden during this difficult period, especially since all the vegetables in their gardens were completely submerged and ruined. Ms. Truong Thi Siem (Quang Thanh village, Dien Lac commune) said emotionally, “My house was deeply flooded, everything was ruined. We’ve been eating makeshift meals for the past few days. Today, receiving clean vegetables, I’m so happy I want to cry. It’s during difficult times that you realize how precious human kindness is.”

The atmosphere at the free vegetable stall in Dien Lam commune was equally heartwarming. Signs reading "Free Vegetable Stall" were neatly hung in front of the distribution area for easy identification. The vegetables were sorted by type, neatly arranged, and clean. Mr. Bui Huu Quoc (Xuan Dong village, Dien Lam commune) said: "While fresh vegetables are scarce and prices have increased due to flooding, receiving free vegetables like this is very precious. Each bunch of vegetables represents a kind gesture."

Supporting people in overcoming difficulties.

In the North and West wards of Nha Trang, the free vegetable stalls, jointly organized by the Provincial Youth Union, were bustling with activity. Dozens of young people in blue shirts sorted bundles of vegetables, divided them into plastic bags, and handed them directly to the people. Those receiving assistance included elderly people using canes, mothers carrying small children, and people who had just finished cleaning their houses. Everyone felt happier receiving bundles of fresh green cabbage, bags of carrots, and zucchini – things that are simple but precious in this situation.

Reportedly, on November 26th, the program transported 14 tons of various green vegetables to serve the people in the communes and wards of Dien Lam, Dien Khanh, Dien Lac, Dien Dien, Tay Nha Trang, and Bac Nha Trang, including water spinach, mustard greens, jute mallow, sweet potato leaves, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. Mr. Huynh Huu Phuc - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, said: “We want to provide timely support to the people during the reconstruction phase. After the floods, most of the vegetables in the gardens were submerged and damaged, and the supply is scarce. Therefore, providing safe and stable green vegetables is very necessary, contributing to alleviating the immediate difficulties for the people. The program will continue to be implemented in the coming days to support the people.”

These free vegetable stalls are not only places to supply vegetables, but also places for sharing and contributing to community cohesion after natural disasters. The timely involvement of the Fatherland Front, the Provincial Youth Union, social organizations, and volunteer forces has affirmed the role of the political system in supporting people to stabilize their lives after natural disasters.
