The “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” was jointly implemented by Mr. Le Trung Hieu (Ward 6, My Tho City) and other philanthropists and donors over the past 3 months. The “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” opens from 5-7pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, where workers, poor students, and people on the go can have a heartwarming meal for only 1,000 VND.

"1,000 VND instant noodle shop" of Mr. Le Trung Hieu's group shares with many difficult lives.

Called a shop, but the place is arranged very simply, close to workers and laborers. The stalls are filled with food, including instant noodles, boiled eggs, sausages, spices, and a large pot of broth that is constantly on fire to heat up, stew bones, corn, tubers, mushrooms... Customers come here to serve their own meals. The shop's customers are very diverse, from children, students, workers, lonely elderly people, lottery ticket sellers...

Since its opening, the noodle shop has always been cozy and bustling with customers. Mr. Hieu and a few friends have also been busier. Every day at around 2 p.m., people who share the same idea of doing charity work are busy preparing ingredients and food to cook and serve meals, ensuring nutrition and food safety for customers.

Mr. Le Trung Hieu (Team Leader) shared: “On average, the noodle shop serves more than 300 - 500 customers every day. The purpose of this “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” is to help poor workers, students and pupils in difficult circumstances have delicious meals without having to worry about the cost. The price of a bowl of noodles at 1,000 VND is symbolic so that those who come to eat feel comfortable and happy."

“1,000 VND instant noodle shop” is the brainchild of 3 members with the same idea and desire to do decent work. There are only a few tables, some small chairs, a shelf for instant noodles, food and a sign that reads: “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” noodles are available for self-service.

At first, Mr. Hieu and his friends pooled money to buy noodles, eggs, sausages, vegetables... to carry out the idea. When the work spread, many benefactors brought goods to support. The noodle shop has now become a familiar address for many poor workers, students and students with difficult circumstances.

“For first-time customers, the team will guide them, and for the next time, when they get used to it, they will do it themselves. The shop only operates from afternoon to evening, but every day there are still more than 100 people coming to eat. The extra work will be hard, but seeing that we can share some of the difficulties with the people makes everyone happy,” Hieu confided.

Mr. Duong Van Chien (a worker in My Tho City) often comes to this shop to express his gratitude to the kind owner who opened a noodle shop to support poor workers. Mr. Chien hopes that there will be more meaningful and charitable restaurants like this to help people in difficult circumstances.

Mr. Chien shared: “A bowl of noodles for 1,000 VND has meat, eggs, sausages, and noodles. If you eat at other restaurants, you have to pay 15,000 to 20,000 VND per bowl of instant noodles. The situation of low-income workers is very difficult, so when I met a restaurant owner with such a charitable heart, I was very touched. Thank you, Mr. Hieu!”

Mr. Le Trung Hieu said that he saw on social networks many models of "1,000 VND instant noodle shops" from Ben Tre , Vinh Long to Ho Chi Minh City and witnessed many difficult situations in My Tho City, so he decided to open this noodle shop to help the poor and feel more warm-hearted.

Every day, Mr. Hieu sells hundreds of bowls of noodles for 1,000 VND or for free to poor workers, disadvantaged students, and street lottery ticket vendors. After finishing their meal, diners put money in the prepared donation box, or if they don’t, it’s okay. This money will be collected with everyone’s donations to buy new noodles.”

EVERYONE JOINS HANDS

Every week, the shop will review the supply and buy once, including many types of noodles, eggs, sausages. “Many uncles and aunts come to voluntarily donate, but we only accept noodles, sausages and eggs. Many uncles and aunts also try the experience and put a large amount of money in the box to contribute to the noodle fund.

The shop has only been open for about 3 months but has received a lot of attention and support, making everyone in the group excited, feeling like they have done something to support vulnerable people in society" - Mr. Hieu said.

Mr. Hieu shared: “For first-time guests, the group members will guide everyone, and for subsequent times, they will do it themselves. After eating, most people consciously collect their bowls and put them in the trash. At the end of the meal, the staff will clean up and prepare the dishes for the next guests. My wish now is to open another restaurant in another place so that people in the area can eat more conveniently. We record and publicly report all the donations from benefactors on the group's personal page.”

In addition to the poor diners, the restaurant also welcomes more well-off people, who come not only to eat, but also to contribute to maintaining this model. Although some people have offered to support with cash, Mr. Hieu still maintains the rule of only collecting 1,000 VND/bowl; because for him, the greatest value is not profit, but "the joy of seeing others full".

Talking about his plans for the future, Mr. Hieu said that the “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” or free noodle shop has no target of how long it will operate. However, the group members are determined to maintain this model as long as possible to help more people in difficult circumstances.

The story of the “1,000 VND instant noodle shop” is a warm bright spot in the heart of the city. A small action but carrying a message of sharing and love, has spread strongly in the community...
