Dong Dang commune was established by merging Dong Dang town and the communes of Thuy Hung, Phu Xa, Hong Phong, and Bao Lam. After the administrative merger, Dong Dang commune is one of the communes with a large area and a large population in the province, with many households still facing difficulties. In this context, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses has been implemented in the area, bringing practical benefits.
According to statistics from the People's Committee of the commune, in 2025, the entire commune completed the repair and construction of 74 temporary and dilapidated houses with a total cost of over 3.2 billion VND. Each house meets the criteria of three solid structures (solid foundation, solid walls, solid roof), has a minimum area of 30 m2, and includes a toilet and appropriate auxiliary facilities. This result not only reflects the determination of the Party committee and the government but also shows the spirit of solidarity and sharing of the community in the area.
In his new house, Mr. Hoang Van Sen from Day Thep village was moved to tears: "Previously, my house didn't meet the housing criteria; it had no walls, and both sides of the walls leaned against the neighboring houses. On rainy days, it leaked, and water splashed in, soaking everything. Thanks to the help of the government and local forces, my family now has a new, sturdy house."
Similarly, Ms. Ly Thi Duyen's household in Vuon Sai village is also one of the households receiving support for building a new house in 2025. Their old house was severely dilapidated, and they were constantly worried about it collapsing during the rainy season. Ms. Duyen shared, "Before, my house was in terrible condition; it leaked when it rained, water flowed all over the floor, and my whole family was always anxious, especially during strong winds. Thanks to the support from the commune government, and the help from the soldiers and militia in dismantling and transporting materials, my family now has a sturdy 70m2 house. With a new house, I can work with peace of mind and no longer worry."
Not only the two families mentioned above, but many households, after having new homes, have stabilized their lives, focused on labor and production, and gradually risen out of poverty. This is also an important factor helping the commune improve aspects of residential housing and sustainable poverty reduction in the construction of new rural areas.
To ensure the successful elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, the commune has implemented numerous solutions. Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, stated: The commune has established a Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses and assigned specific tasks to each member. Furthermore, the commune places particular emphasis on the review and selection of eligible recipients; the selection and identification of households receiving support are conducted transparently; and the commune proactively calls for and mobilizes financial support from organizations, businesses, and philanthropists.
In addition, the commune focuses on mobilizing and promoting the role of the community and local forces such as: youth union, militia, soldiers, commune officials, etc., to participate in providing labor support, helping with dismantling, transporting materials, and building houses. Accordingly, in 2025 alone, the entire commune mobilized approximately 300 man-days of labor to support households in dismantling and transporting materials...
Entering 2026, the commune government continues to accelerate the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, given the continued need for support and the limited resources of many households. Therefore, the commune will continue to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts, while flexibly integrating various funding sources to ensure progress and quality. Accordingly, in 2026, the commune aims to repair and rebuild 34 temporary and dilapidated houses. To date, construction has begun on 28 out of 34 houses. It is expected that by April 30, 2026, Dong Dang commune will have completed the repair and rebuilding of all 34 houses.
In reality, eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses not only has humanitarian significance but also directly contributes to improving the criteria for New Rural Development. The sturdy houses built not only help people "settle down" but also create a foundation for "making a living," promoting household economic development and sustainable poverty reduction. To date, the percentage of houses in the commune meeting the standards of the Ministry of Construction has reached 98%.
With the attention of the Party committee and the government, and the solidarity of the community, each new, sustainable house built is not only a joy for each family, but also an important foundation for the commune to continue building new rural areas in depth, aiming for an increasingly prosperous and happy life for the people.
