Opening Ceremony

In his opening remarks at the Games, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul emphasized: “Thailand is honored to host the 33rd SEA Games. With the spirit of solidarity of 11 Southeast Asian countries, and with more than 10,000 athletes and coaches from countries in the region, we will strive to create a memorable sporting event and aim for common success. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, I respectfully declare the 33rd SEA Games open.”
One of the highlights of the Opening Ceremony was a performance celebrating Thai identity, showcased through cultural symbols such as the Ram Thon dance, the image of Hanuman, the white elephant, and Ayutthaya architecture, skillfully combined with contemporary dance to highlight the region's sporting spirit. The participation of renowned artists such as BamBam Kunpimook Bhuwakul, Nattawut Srimok (Golf F.Hero), V Violet Wautier, Twopee Pitawat Phrueksakit, and martial arts legend Buakaw Banchamek added to the appeal and excitement of the program.

Besides the impressive artistic performances, the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games retained the traditional rituals familiar from many previous editions, including the flag procession, the parade of sports delegations, the flag-raising ceremony, and the torch procession and lighting of the ceremonial flame.
During the solemn flag procession, the flag of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation, the national flag of Thailand, and the flag of the 33rd SEA Games were solemnly carried at the head of the parade, creating a sacred and proud atmosphere. Immediately afterwards, the 11 sports delegations participating in the 33rd SEA Games paraded past the grandstand to the cheers of the spectators.

The sports delegations will parade in alphabetical order, and as usual, the host team Thailand will parade last. The Vietnamese sports delegation is the second-to-last to enter the stadium, standing out with their vibrant red and yellow uniforms. Middle blocker Le Thanh Thuy (volleyball) and Le Minh Thuan (karate) are the two athletes chosen to carry the flag, marching with the entire delegation in a joyful atmosphere, demonstrating their determination to achieve their goals.

Next, the flag-raising ceremony was conducted in a solemn atmosphere. The flag of the Southeast Asian Sports Federation was slowly raised, fluttering alongside the Thai national flag, marking the sacred moment that opened the regional sports games.

Finally, and most anticipated by the audience, was the torch relay and the lighting of the SEA Games flame. The SEA Games torch departed from Bangkok, passing through Chonburi, Songkhla, and Nakhon Ratchasima, carried by numerous athletes. Afterwards, the torch was returned to Bangkok and carried into the ceremonial area by prominent Thai athletes to light the flame. The moment the flame blazed brightly symbolized the enduring spirit of sportsmanship, the will to excel, and the unity of the nations in the region.

A spectacular fireworks display lasting several minutes brought the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games to a perfect close, officially marking the beginning of the competition for the participating sports delegations in the coming days. The ceremony left a deep impression, raising expectations for a successful, emotionally charged, and memorable Games.
