Bac Ninh plans an airport urban area near Gia Binh International Airport.
The South Duong River Urban Subdivision, Zone 2, has just had its planning task approved at a scale of 1/2000, with the orientation of becoming an international-class airport urban area.
Báo Bắc Ninh•06/09/2025The People's Committee of Bac Ninh province has just approved the planning task for the South Duong River urban sub-area (sub-area 2) at a scale of 1/2000. This is an important step that will serve as the basis for preparing sub-area and detailed planning projects, and managing investment and construction projects.
The planning area covers a total area of over 12,800 hectares, bordered by the Hanoi Expressway and Gia Binh International Airport to the north, and Hai Phong City to the east. It is characterized as an international-class airport city, a city within a park, with a complex, high-density layout, and a TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) model.

The population could reach 750,000-800,000 people by 2050, including permanent residents, workers, and tourists .
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Bac Ninh Provincial Civil and Urban Development Project Management Board No. 2 to organize the planning within a period not exceeding 9 months. The Department of Construction is the appraisal agency.
Located approximately 40 km from Hanoi, Gia Binh International Airport (Bac Ninh province) commenced construction in December 2024 with a total area of nearly 1,900 hectares. In early August, the Ministry of Finance received an investment proposal from Masterise Group - the first domestic enterprise to express interest in undertaking this project.
As one of the industrial hubs in the North, Bac Ninh benefits from its location within the key economic triangle of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, along with its position as the northeastern gateway to the capital. According to the resolution on the reorganization of provincial-level administrative units passed by the National Assembly on June 12th, Bac Ninh merged with Bac Giang, retaining the name Bac Ninh. The new province is considered to have many advantages in attracting investment in industry, services, and urban development.
