Jennifer Aniston worked out the 15-15-15 method and fasted for breakfast every day to have a toned body and a healthy body at the age of 54.
Jennifer used to believe in the "no pain, no success" training philosophy and focused on cardio, HIIT (fat burning exercises), resistance, lifting weights with high weight. However, the actress later admitted that this method was not suitable for her body, easily leaving her exhausted and stagnant.
Currently, she sets up a more minimalist exercise herself, called the method 15-15-15, with 15 minutes of cycling, 15 minutes of jogging on the machine and 15 minutes on the cross-training machine (combining both legs and arms).
“I got injured last fall and can only do Pilates, which I really love. But this sport does not help me to exercise vigorously to sweat. After recovering, I did exercises 15-15-15 again," she said, June 7.
Experts say that dividing a cardio session into many different small exercises will reduce the feeling of boredom, helping to work many muscle groups.
According to the UK's National Institutes of Health (NHS), the average age of menopause for a woman is around 51. Chelsea Labadini, a professional fitness trainer, says Jennifer's 15-15-15 method helps increase bone density at the time the body begins to age.
“Running is a load-bearing activity that promotes the production of bone cells, which are necessary for new bone growth,” she explains.
However, Labadini also said that women should avoid using this exercise every day if they want to build muscle. Instead, people should focus on lifting weights. According to her, women of Jennifer's age will benefit greatly from resistance training, as it helps maintain the muscle mass lost as they age.
Besides a healthy exercise regimen, Jennifer also fasting for breakfast. This is part of intermittent fasting – a term that describes cyclical diets and fasting. The method gives the body enough time to fully consume food, while strictly limiting the amount of calories tolerated.
There are two forms of intermittent fasting: time-of-day restriction (eating for 6-8 hours and fasting for the remaining 16-18 hours) or intermittent fasting for 16 to 24 hours, twice a week.
Unlike the famous, hyped diet trends on social media, intermittent fasting is backed by many experts, with research showing its benefits. This regimen is recommended by some doctors for people with type 2 diabetes, or people who need to lose weight.
Some studies show that intermittent fasting can help with weight loss, improve memory and mental performance, heart health, type 2 diabetes. It is also a method of supporting cancer treatment.
