However, accurately assessing Bich Thuy's physical condition and peak performance is not an easy task.
A breakout year
In 2023, Bich Thuy was part of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team's journey to victory in the AVC Challenge Cup, 4th place in the Asian Championship, 4th place in the Asian Games, and a silver medal at the SEA Games.
However, in 2024, her performance declined while playing for the Duc Giang Lao Cai Chemical Club. As a result, Bich Thuy was completely absent from the national team's training camps. The replacements were Le Thanh Thuy, Pham Thi Hien, Nguyen Thi Trinh, and Dinh Thi Tra Giang.
Just when it seemed like Bich Thuy's career potential had stalled, she experienced a surprising surge in 2025. It all began when Bich Thuy accepted an invitation to compete in South Korea for the GS Caltex club.
In her new environment, she showed remarkable progress, especially in blocking and attacking speed. This transformation helped her regain a spot on the national team. And in the AVC Nations Cup, the Women's World Volleyball Championship, and the SEA V.League, Bich Thuy was one of the two main middle blockers.
Last October, she continued to shine while playing for Duc Giang Lao Cai Chemicals at the National Women's Volleyball Championship. Thanks to this, she received an invitation to play for Okayama Sea Gulls (Japan) after the domestic tournament concluded.
Bich Thuy became the second Vietnamese athlete to compete in Japan this year, alongside Tran Thi Thanh Thuy from Gunma Green Wings club.
It's difficult to assess form.
After a brilliant year showcasing her outstanding abilities, Bich Thuy's inclusion in the Vietnamese women's volleyball team for the SEA Games 33 is almost certain. However, there remains one issue that is causing coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet concern.
Immediately after the National Championship concluded, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team assembled to prepare for the SEA Games. However, Bich Thuy was absent from this training camp because she was busy traveling to Japan with her new team.
Having left for Japan early, she is facing considerable difficulties in her new environment. Specifically, Bich Thuy has been a regular member of the Okayama Sea Gulls' cheerleading squad for many consecutive weeks, but has never played in a game.
It wasn't until November 26th that the club's official website announced Bich Thuy as a new recruit. This means that from this point onwards, she can begin playing for Okayama Sea Gulls. However, she can only play a maximum of two matches with Okayama Sea Gulls this weekend in the Japanese Championship because she has to rejoin the Vietnamese national team on December 2nd.
Two matches for her club are too few to assess Bich Thuy's form. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet shared: "Whenever the coaching staff talks to her, Bich Thuy says that training in Japan is very demanding."
We asked you to record videos of the training sessions and send them to us, but this violates club regulations. This makes it difficult for us to assess Bich Thuy's form. In addition, the fact that she hasn't played a match yet will also have a significant impact."
I hope Thanh Thúy maintains her performance.
While Bich Thuy hasn't yet played in Japan, Thanh Thuy has shone brightly in the Gunma Green Wings' colors. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet commented: "Watching Thanh Thuy play so well in a big environment like Japan is a very good sign. We hope Thanh Thuy will maintain her best form and physical condition for the SEA Games 33."
