With 25 years of experience in the business world, Ms. Dinh Thi Mai – Director of Ngoc Quy Doan Co., Ltd. (Huong Khe – Ha Tinh ) – has demonstrated the prowess of a female entrepreneur in the wood industry.

Ms. Dinh Thi Mai (born in 1968) "fell in love" with carpentry after marrying Mr. Doan Huu Nhung (born in 1966) – a fellow villager from Huong Tra commune (Huong Khe district). In the early days of their business, in 1994, Ms. Mai and her husband opened a carpentry shop in the local area.

In 1996, when the Huong Khe District Vocational Training Center (Huong Khe town) opened a carpentry training class, the couple packed their bags and moved to the mountain town, working as both school security guards and instructors. During that time, Mrs. Mai also attended a course at Vinh College of Technical Education to further equip herself with knowledge for her future entrepreneurial journey.

After two years of learning carpentry at the Huong Khe District Vocational Training Center, Mrs. Mai and her husband harbored a plan to start their own family-owned carpentry workshop. Without hesitation, Mrs. Mai traveled alone to the North to find and hire carpenters from Nam Dinh province to work for her production facility.

“At that time, carpentry in Huong Khe was not yet developed, and the skills of the craftsmen were not high. After being told by someone in the industry that craftsmen from Nam Dinh were skilled, I went to each carpentry workshop there to find and hire workers. This was the unique path that helped my husband and I build our brand and establish a foothold in the market. Initially, we only hired a few craftsmen, but now, our workshop has nearly a dozen craftsmen from the North. Some of them have been with us for over 25 years and consider each other like family,” Ms. Mai shared.

Having hired a team of highly skilled craftsmen from renowned carpentry workshops in Nam Dinh, Ms. Mai boldly borrowed capital from the bank to invest in production and business development. In 2019, she established Ngoc Quy Doan Co., Ltd., specializing in the production, trading, and construction of wooden furniture. The company currently has two production facilities and one showroom with a scale of nearly 2,000 ; its charter capital is over 3 billion VND; average annual revenue is over 4 billion VND, and after-tax profit is over 150 million VND. The company provides regular employment for 15 workers with an average salary of 15-20 million VND/person/month. During peak periods, the company also provides seasonal employment for 10-15 local workers.
