Unique and distinctive identity

Unlike other provinces in the Red River Delta, midland, mountainous or coastal areas, Quang Ninh has a mining workers’ culture. This is a unique cultural feature and the most characteristic identity of Quang Ninh, not to be confused with other places.

Discipline and unity are the cultural pillars of the development of the Coal industry.

Solidarity and unity are the traditions of the people in the border and coastal areas in labor, production, and fighting against natural disasters and enemies. In a remote and rugged land, constantly threatened by dangers from natural disasters and enemies, uniting to form a solid block and working together is a mandatory requirement for survival; over time, solidarity and unity become even closer, becoming a natural thing for the people in the Northeast.

The spirit of solidarity and unity in traditional culture has been further promoted in modern culture since the coal mining industry was formed in Quang Ninh. From the mid-19th century, Vietnamese people began to dig the first pickaxe to mine coal at Yen Lang Mountain (Dong Trieu) under the edict of King Minh Mang. Later, along with the colonial exploitation process of the French colonialists in the Northeast region, the mining workforce was formed and developed more and more. The workforce came from many different regions and areas, living together in worker hamlets, worker huts, worker villages, worker quarters...

In the process of working and producing in the mines, especially in the revolutionary struggle against the harsh oppression of the colonialists and their lackeys, miners must unite into a unified bloc to resonate the strength of the struggle. Since the birth of our Party, unity has been an organizational and operational principle of the Party, so that quality has been further cultivated, promoted, and raised to a new level. Moreover, the working class is a class with a high sense of organizational discipline; industrial production is on an assembly line, with specialization, so workers are required to practice discipline, absolutely comply with labor discipline and organizational discipline.

In particular, during the revolutionary struggle, the team of miners soon realized their historical mission, formed a solid block, formed the core values of discipline and unity in the General Strike of November 1936, participated in the self-management uprising in the August Revolution of 1945, took over the Mining Region in 1955, joined the Coal Corps to the South to directly fight with guns, both produced to support the large frontline in the South and fought to share the fire on the battlefield, creating the Victory of the first battle to protect the sea and sky of the Mining Region, contributing to smashing the two escalations of the war by aircraft of the US imperialists into the skies of the North.

Thus, discipline and unity are cultural qualities of Quang Ninh born from traditional culture and modern industrial life, and Quang Ninh is one of the cradles of formation and development of the Vietnamese working class. The spiritual value from the slogan of the General Strike in the past was promoted through the periods of resistance against French colonialism, American imperialism, and protection of the northern border.

During the period of peace and unity, that unique cultural value continued to become an invaluable asset for the people of Quang Ninh in the process of building their homeland and country in the years of renovation. The cultural value of miners became the strength for workers to unite in production labor, innovate science and technology to bring high productivity, efficiency, sustainable economic development along with environmental protection. Therefore, discipline and unity - solidarity and unity became a precious tradition, and higher than that, a unique cultural value of Quang Ninh.
