On the previous day of the competition, there was an incident where athlete Vu Son Tung, after losing the match, went to the referee room to express his frustration with the referee supervisor for not doing his job properly, affecting the match. Specifically, athlete Vu Son Tung said that the referee supervisor did not intervene properly in the decision of the ball in/out. In addition, when a fan had an annoying behavior towards the athlete while competing, the athlete complained to the referee, the referee supervisor, and asked to invite the fan out but was refused. The athlete from Hai Phong used rude words when talking to the referee supervisor, the clip of the incident was shared on many pickleball forums, leaving mixed comments.

What did Vu Son Tung admit?

Talking to Thanh Nien today, Mr. Mac Xuan Tung - in charge of the pickleball department of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, a member of the organizing committee, said: "This morning, the organizing committee, the tournament's executive committee, representatives of Duong Cao Kawin Club, athlete Vu Son Tung and the referee supervisor sat down to discuss with each other in the spirit of reconciliation, learning from experience, and sharing to bring success to the new sport of pickleball. Athlete Vu Son Tung admitted that his words were not up to standard due to frustration with the referee supervisor. The referee supervisor also said that they would learn from experience to do better. Everything was resolved smoothly."

Athlete Vu Son Tung continued to compete in the men's doubles category of the U.19+ age group, standing with Dinh Ba Trong to win the right to enter the semi-finals before stopping before the pair Phuc Huynh/Vinh Hien. The 2025 National Pickleball Championship also ended today with an overwhelming victory belonging to the athletes of the D-Joy Club.
