Stay ahead of technology trends.

While traditional newspapers once held a monopoly on information dissemination, social media platforms, mobile applications, and digital communication channels have now become direct competitors, even surpassing them in speed, reach, and the ability to personalize information. The public is increasingly proactive in receiving, and even producing, information. The traditional one-way communication structure has been broken down, replaced by a network communication model where information flows rapidly, non-linearly, and in multiple directions.

With Big Data, journalists can uncover deep-seated societal problems from individual, isolated pieces of information—seemingly meaningless data. With Artificial Intelligence (AI), newsrooms can effectively apply it to managing, producing, distributing content, and promoting products. Automated algorithms for information retrieval, data analysis to identify trends, suggest compelling headlines, and produce audio and video using AI are gradually assisting some manual processes in journalism. With augmented reality/virtual reality (AR/VR) technology, journalism can "tell stories" through immersive experiences, increasing interaction and persuasiveness.

Major trends shaping the future of journalism

Firstly, multi-platform and multimedia journalism is on the rise. News organizations are no longer simply producing print, television, or radio news, but are all moving towards a converged newsroom model with multiple media and social media platforms. A single work often integrates text, video, graphics, audio, and interactive effects. Newsrooms organize production according to the "one content - multiple formats" model, where a news item can be produced as an in-depth article for each type of media, a short video for TikTok, an infographic for social media, a podcast for Spotify, and so on.

Secondly, data journalism, explanatory journalism, and creativity journalism are highly valued. Through the analysis and visualization of data, journalism can provide the public with a deeper, more comprehensive, and objective understanding of social, economic, and political issues. Modern journalism also aims for a creative role, that is, contributing to promoting positive change in society. Public interest journalism focuses on essential community issues, from environmental protection, education, and healthcare to combating corruption and social injustice, and guiding values.

Thirdly, content personalization and audience data are becoming prominent trends. News organizations today are not just producing mass-market content, but are also leveraging user behavior data such as browsing history, reading time, interactions, and preferences to recommend content tailored to each individual. This helps extend the audience's time on platforms, increase engagement, and improve the reading experience. No longer a "one-size-fits-all" approach, modern journalism is moving towards becoming a "companion" that understands its audience, thereby opening up significant opportunities for creating value through connection.

Fourth, enhancing verification and credibility becomes crucial. In the context of fake news, disinformation, deepfakes, and information manipulation rampant online, mainstream journalism must become an "institution of verification," where the public can discern truth from falsehood. This requires not only rigorous content editing processes but also high professional ethics and social responsibility from journalists.

Fifth, the economic model of journalism needs to be adapted to the new context. While revenue from traditional advertising is declining due to being dominated by platforms like Google and Facebook, journalism is experimenting with various models: paywalls, membership programs, crowdfunding, and linking content with e-commerce. However, economic development must still be based on the core foundation of content quality and building trust and real value for the community.

Restructuring the production process for various types of journalism.

The current print newspaper production process is no longer manual but has strongly integrated technology: Digital design and layout using specialized software (such as Adobe InDesign), allowing editors to work directly on electronic drafts with tight control over layout, color, and images. Content editing goes hand in hand with images and graphics, aiming for the standard of "fast reading - long-lasting memory - easy understanding." Automated printing and distribution with high-speed offset printing systems, and synchronized packaging and shipping processes save time and costs. The biggest challenge for print newspapers is no longer technical, but the ability to adapt to new information consumption habits - fast, concise, flexible, and interactive.

Online newspapers, characterized by continuous production, instant updates, and rapid digital transformation, have a highly integrated production process. In particular, online newspapers are advantageous in terms of search engine optimization, attractive design, content arrangement suitable for various interfaces (mobile, desktop), enhanced interaction with the public, and integration of social media into their content distribution strategy.

Broadcasting and television are also caught in the whirlwind of transformation in the digital space. From being exclusive and linear channels, television and radio are now becoming "delinear" to adapt to on-demand viewing and listening habits. Compact cameras, wireless audio recording equipment, and fast editing software (Premiere Pro, Final Cut, CapCut...) allow for flexible production, even with small teams of reporters. News organizations are also leveraging podcasts as an intimate, accessible storytelling tool suitable for younger audiences.

Given these trends, journalism needs to proactively adapt, innovate its thinking, enhance its digital capabilities, restructure its organization, invest in human resources, and develop a technology strategy to continue affirming its central role in mass media. Modern journalists must become "multiskilled journalists" in the digital age, capable of writing articles, taking photos, filming, editing, recording audio, creating podcasts, and using data analysis tools. In the face of the enormous flow of data, journalism needs to remain a "compass of knowledge," building public trust through honesty, objectivity, humanity, and social responsibility. This is the solid foundation for sustainable journalistic development in the digital age. And to fulfill that mission, journalism needs to be recognized as a priority area for serious development, training, and support with a long-term vision.
