Tuổi Trẻ Online recently received inquiries from several parents with children attending junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City: "From December 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council decided to waive tuition fees for junior high school students in the 2024-2025 school year. So when will we be reimbursed for the tuition fees we paid in the first few months of the school year?"

Mr. Duong Tri Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, stated: "On December 27th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued a document on the implementation of Resolution No. 37/2024/NQ-HĐND dated December 11, 2024, of the City People's Council (specific policy to support tuition fees for public and private secondary school students and continuing education students in Ho Chi Minh City in the 2024-2025 school year)."

Accordingly, the subjects eligible for the special tuition fee support policy include:

Secondary school students and continuing education students at the secondary level who are studying at public educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City.

This includes junior high school students studying at non-public educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City, excluding students studying at educational institutions with foreign investment.

The specific support levels are divided into two groups of beneficiaries as follows:

Group 1: Students studying at schools in Thu Duc City and districts: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Binh Tan, with a support level of 60,000 VND/student/month.

Group 2: Students studying at schools in the districts of Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi, Nha Be, and Can Gio, with a support level of 30,000 VND/student/month.

The department's document requires public educational institutions that have temporarily collected tuition fees for junior high school to refund them to students according to the following two fee groups:

Group 1: 60,000 VND/student/month.

Group 2: 30,000 VND/student/month.

The refunds to students must be processed before January 31, 2025.

Furthermore, for students who have transferred schools, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires educational institutions to be responsible for paying tuition fee support to students according to regulations based on the number of months they actually studied at the school.

Specifically for private educational institutions, the department requests that they review the number of students and provide one-time support based on the number of months of actual schooling at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

Proposal to waive tuition fees for all students at all levels.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just completed a draft proposal to waive tuition fees for students starting from the 2025-2026 school year.

Specifically, the draft resolution concerns special policies to support tuition fees for preschool children, public and private high school students, and high school continuing education students starting from the 2025-2026 school year.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that currently, primary school students in public schools, 5-year-old preschool children, and junior high school students in the city are exempt from tuition fees. Therefore, only preschool children under 5 years old and high school students are required to pay tuition fees according to regulations.

Waiving tuition fees would be a meaningful and practical gift for all students in the city, marking a significant milestone in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country.
