Six-year-old girl eats half a pound of hair.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Doctors at Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital have surgically removed 0.5 kg of hair from the stomach of a 6-year-old girl. She was diagnosed with trichophagia (Rapunzel syndrome).

Earlier, the child was brought to the hospital by family members with symptoms of abdominal pain, fatigue, and a hardened abdomen. The family reported that the child had a habit of eating hair.

During an endoscopy, doctors discovered a tightly coiled ball of hair occupying the entire stomach of the child. Doctors performed surgery to remove the hairball, which weighed approximately 0.5 kg.

According to doctors, the child suffers from Rapunzel syndrome, a rare psychological disorder that causes sufferers to pull out and eat their own hair. This syndrome is more common in girls.

People who eat hair for extended periods may experience problems such as acid reflux, intestinal obstruction, stomach ulcers, and even life-threatening conditions.

In March, doctors at the Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital also removed a 1kg ball of hair from the stomach of a 12-year-old girl.
