Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid were held to a draw by Saudi Arabian representatives. In the early hours of June 19th, Real Madrid drew 1-1 against Al Hilal in Group H of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
According to the Daily Mail , Bellingham loudly swore at the assistant referee during Real Madrid's opening FIFA Club World Cup™ match. The incident occurred when Al Hilal defender Joao Cancelo kicked the ball, hitting Bellingham and resulting in a throw-in for Al Hilal.
Enraged at what he believed was Cancelo's touch, the Real Madrid player yelled at the assistant referee: "It's our ball, you bastard!" Bellingham's behavior quickly drew attention from fans, as earlier in the 2024/25 season, Bellingham had also received a red card for insulting a referee during a La Liga match.
Fortunately for the English midfielder, the referee did not punish him for the aforementioned unsportsmanlike conduct in the recent match. Just last week, coach Thomas Tuchel also revealed the differing opinions he and his mother had regarding midfielder Jude Bellingham's on-field behavior.
Tuchel admitted: “Many of Bellingham’s actions can provoke a negative reaction. I’ve seen this through my family, especially my mother. She has criticized Jude Bellingham a lot.”
Tuchel's statement comes amid continued controversy surrounding Bellingham's on-field reaction during the 1-3 defeat to Senegal on June 10th. Bellingham showed clear frustration when his goal was disallowed by VAR due to a handball by Levi Colwill. After the match, the England star lost his temper and kicked a water bottle, leading to mixed reactions.
