Charged with sophisticated hacking

Many hackers have sophisticated hacking actions.

Mr. Westbrook was arrested in the UK and faces related civil charges from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The US Justice Department is seeking Mr. Westbrook’s extradition on charges of securities fraud, wire fraud and five counts of computer fraud.

Authorities said Mr. Westbrook accessed the email accounts of executives from January 2019 to May 2020 and used material nonpublic information to buy stocks and make profits.

Mr. Westbrook is said to have used anonymous email accounts, VPN services and bitcoin to conceal his wrongdoing. The securities fraud and wire fraud charges each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
