In recent days, the market for essential goods in the province has seen a price increase, while purchasing power has slowed down due to people tightening their spending. In response to this situation, retail systems are stepping up promotions to stabilize the market and stimulate consumer demand.

Food prices fluctuated, and purchasing power decreased.
Observations at markets throughout the province show that prices of many food items are relatively stable compared to the period immediately after Tet (Lunar New Year), however, there are differences between different product groups. Specifically, beef prices remain high, ranging from 270,000 to 300,000 VND/kg; chicken and duck eggs from 25,000 to 32,000 VND/dozen. Pork prices tend to decrease slightly, commonly at 140,000 to 150,000 VND/kg for pork belly; pork leg ranges from 110,000 to 120,000 VND/kg; and ribs from 150,000 to 180,000 VND/kg.
According to Ms. Ha Thi My, a meat vendor at Vinh Long market (Long Chau ward), since Tet (Lunar New Year), pork prices have decreased by about 5-10 thousand VND/kg depending on the type due to abundant supply. However, purchasing power has decreased significantly, and daily consumption is lower than before and during Tet.
Not only meat, but the prices of many types of seafood have also decreased by 10-20% compared to the Tet holiday period. Specifically, red tilapia ranges from 35-40 thousand VND/kg; catfish 35-45 thousand VND/kg; pangasius about 45 thousand VND/kg; farmed snakehead fish 50 thousand VND/kg; farmed tilapia 50-55 thousand VND/kg; catfish 80 thousand VND/kg; farmed eel 100 thousand VND/kg; wild snakehead fish 160 thousand VND/kg; giant freshwater prawn about 170 thousand VND/kg…
In contrast to the downward trend in meat and seafood prices, vegetable prices are trending upwards due to the dry season. At Phuoc Hau market (Phuoc Hau ward), some vegetables such as sweet cabbage and Chinese cabbage have increased in price due to high demand while supply has not kept up. Currently, watercress is 18,000 VND/kg; sweet cabbage and Chinese cabbage (grade 1) are around 22,000 VND/kg; water spinach is 20,000 VND/kg; tomatoes are 25,000 VND/kg; lettuce is 30,000 VND/kg…
According to Mr. Dang Thanh Hung of Phuoc Hau Safe Vegetable Production and Consumption Cooperative (Phuoc Hau Ward), the dry season is favorable for vegetable growth, with yields reaching about 1 ton per hectare. However, irrigation costs have increased slightly due to the need to operate water pumps, especially for households using diesel pumps. Nevertheless, high vegetable prices are helping farmers offset production costs. Compared to before Tet (Lunar New Year), the purchase price of vegetables at the farm has increased significantly. A month ago, green and sweet cabbage were only about 4,000 VND/kg, but now they have increased to about 18,000 VND/kg; lettuce has increased by 10,000 VND/kg, reaching 20,000 VND/kg.
Faced with fluctuating prices, consumers tend to adjust their spending. Ms. Truc Vinh (Long Chau ward) said that although food prices have increased, these are essential items that her family still has to buy, but she will consider more carefully, prioritizing products that fit her budget or taking advantage of promotional programs to save on living expenses.
Many solutions to stimulate consumer demand.
Amid declining purchasing power, many retail systems have proactively launched promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand and support people.
At Co.opmart supermarket, many essential items are discounted by 15-50%. Items such as rice, cooking oil, spices, instant noodles, and confectionery all have significant price reductions; household chemicals and appliances also offer many attractive promotions. In the fresh food section, items like meat, fish, shrimp, and fruit are discounted by up to 15% on a rotating basis. Notably, the "Green Vegetable Festival - Buy Now, Great Deals" program, with offers such as buy one get one free, items priced at 9,900 VND, or discounts of up to 30% on many types of vegetables, has attracted a large number of consumers.
Mr. Van Quoc Hoang, Director of Co.opmart Vinh Long Supermarket (Long Chau Ward), said that maintaining the promotional program has contributed to supporting price reductions, stimulating shopping demand, and creating favorable conditions for product consumption for businesses.
Simultaneously, the industry and trade sector has implemented numerous solutions to stabilize the market. Since the beginning of the year, the distribution system has been expanded to rural areas and remote regions through mobile Vietnamese goods tours and markets bringing Vietnamese goods to rural areas, helping people access quality goods at stable prices.
Notably, the trend of "bringing markets online" continues to be promoted. The Ministry of Industry and Trade supports cooperatives and business households in applying e-commerce, livestreaming sales, and bringing products to online platforms. At the same time, businesses are supported in building brands and ensuring traceability to enhance credibility and consumer trust.
According to provincial statistics, the average CPI in the first two months of 2026 increased by 2.8% compared to the same period last year. Of the 11 main groups of goods and services, 9 groups saw price increases compared to the same period last year, notably: housing and construction materials increased by 5.35%; medicine and medical services increased by 3.37%; food and catering services increased by 3.34% (of which, food increased by 5.35%, and eating out increased by 2.86%); household equipment and appliances increased by 2.74%; education increased by 2.14%; clothing, footwear and hats increased by 2.54%...
With the theme "Information Security - Building Trust - Sustainable Consumption," according to Mr. Pham Phuoc Trai, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, activities in response to Vietnam Consumer Rights Day (March 15) will be implemented throughout the industry and trade sector to raise awareness, protect consumer rights, and build a healthy consumer environment. In the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade will continue to organize trade promotion activities, connect supply and demand, support businesses participating in e-commerce, and promote OCOP products and specialties.
