QNgTV - Taking advantage of the increased demand for vacations during the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), online scams tend to increase before and during the holiday, as fraudsters create fake websites, advertise "clearance" tours at cheap prices, or send malware via email to steal money.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, a common tactic is to create fake websites and social media accounts impersonating reputable hotels, resorts, and travel companies, even buying verified badges to build trust. These pages advertise low prices or prices equal to the listed price, request customers to transfer deposit money, and then quickly cut off contact. Another method involves posing as tourists needing to "urgently liquidate a tour" at a much lower price than the market rate.

Additionally, criminals are targeting accommodation establishments by sending phishing emails impersonating booking platforms. These emails typically request payment confirmation, information updates, or cancellations, often containing malicious links. When accessed, these links can lead to device hijacking, data loss, or account deductions.

The Ministry of Public Security advises citizens and business owners to carefully research information about service providers, prioritizing reputable and licensed travel agencies.

Users should absolutely not access unfamiliar links, install applications from unknown sources, or provide OTP codes to others. If any unusual activity is detected or if a victim is found, people should immediately report it to the nearest police station for guidance on how to handle the situation.
