The 2026 Ethnic Minority Language Contest for Border Guards will be organized at two levels: the Border Guard Command level and the regional level.
This year, 170 officers and soldiers from 17 Border Guard units participated in the competition in four ethnic languages: Khmer, Hmong , Tay, and Thai.
Twenty-seven officers and soldiers from the Border Guard of Son La, Nghe An , and Thanh Hoa provinces participated in the Thai ethnic language competition.
Contestants will participate in three parts of the competition: collective presentation, written test, and listening and speaking test. The content of the tests focuses on comprehensively assessing their ability to use the Thai language in practical work, especially communication, propaganda, and public mobilization skills in border areas.
Previously, competitions in Khmer, Hmong, and Tay languages had been successfully organized, achieving high results.
The ethnic minority language competition is a forum for honing and showcasing proficiency and talent in using ethnic minority languages, practically contributing to improving knowledge and use of ethnic languages, as well as the skills in organizing and implementing mass mobilization work of officers and soldiers of the Border Guard.

This also serves as a tool to help the Border Guard gain a deeper understanding of the cultural identity of ethnic minorities, grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people, and further improve their work in mass mobilization, building close relationships with ethnic minority communities, expanding the united front, promoting the strength of the all-people border defense, tightening the people's support, and contributing to the effective implementation of the task of managing and protecting national territorial sovereignty and border security.
Through the competition, the judging panel was able to promptly identify difficulties and limitations in the use of ethnic minority languages by officers and soldiers, and to advise the Border Guard Command on solutions to improve the quality of training in the future.
