Ban Chua village is located in the western mountainous region of Quang Tri province. The lives of the villagers mainly depend on slash-and-burn agriculture, and infrastructure is still lacking. Clean water has long been the greatest desire of the people. For many years, their only source of water for daily use has been streams and rainwater, posing a risk of unsanitary conditions and affecting their health. During the dry season, the streams dry up completely, forcing villagers to travel several kilometers, carrying water in cans back home.

Mr. Ho Van Loi, a resident of Ban Chua village, could not hide his emotion, expressing: “My whole life I have been connected to farming and carrying water on my back. In the dry season, water is scarce, and people have to travel far to carry water back in cans. In the rainy season, the stream water is muddy and not hygienic. Now that we have drilled wells and reservoirs, water flows right to the village, and we are very happy.”
These days, around the reservoir area, children play innocently, happily turning on the clear tap water. The pure smiles on their faces are the clearest evidence of the happiness that the clean water project has brought. Women take advantage of the opportunity to do laundry and wash vegetables right near their homes, instead of having to go fetch water as before.
The "Clean Water for the Community" project in Ban Chua includes two drilled wells, two pumps, two water tanks, a common living area for residents, and solar-powered lights. The project was built solidly through the joint efforts of officers and soldiers of the 968th Division, along with support from various units and businesses.
Comrade Nguyen Thanh Bac, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hieu Giang commune, assessed: "This is the most practical project for the people. Previously, the commune had proposed it many times, but the funding was limited. The joint efforts of the unit have helped to solve the most urgent needs. We will cooperate with the people to maintain and preserve the project so that it can serve us for a long time."
Reportedly, the "Clean Water for the Community" project is one of the key components in the coordinated implementation of the "Improving the Quality and Effectiveness of the People's Mobilization Work of the Armed Forces of Military Region 4 in Special Areas within the Military Region's Territory, 2023-2030 and beyond" project. Colonel Dang Quyet Thang, Political Commissar of Division 968, stated: "For us, building clean water projects is not simply about providing water to the people, but also about the responsibility and affection of the soldiers for the people. We hope that the project will contribute to improving health, raising living standards, and creating more motivation for people to feel secure in staying in their villages and developing their homeland."
The arrival of clean water in Bản Chùa not only cools down the dry, hot days but also helps improve the lives of the Vân Kiều people in this mountainous region, which still faces many hardships, bringing them prosperity and well-being.
