This morning, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong - Deputy Minister of National Defense - attended the ceremony announcing the decision to establish the 20th Army Corps.
This is a special event in terms of force organization in the Army, marking a new development step of Saigon Military Port: from an economic - defense unit to becoming a Marine Economic Corps, continuing to carry out the mission of production and business closely combined with military and defense tasks nationwide.
The main functions and tasks of Corps 20 are to combine national defense with economy , economy with national defense; carry out production and business tasks of port exploitation, logistics services, transportation and marine economic sectors; invest in industrial parks, sea and island tourism and develop clean energy and renewable energy.

Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong requested the leaders and commanders of the 20th Corps to continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement the policies and directions of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, and Ministry of National Defense on military and national defense; combine economy with national defense, build and protect the Fatherland in the new period, especially the requirements of the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The 20th Corps needs to sustainably develop the marine economy, closely linked to ensuring national defense and security, maintaining independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and strengthening international cooperation; quickly stabilize the organization and staffing within the current military conditions, assign and delegate specific tasks; perfect the Party organization, command organization, and mass organizations, and put them into operation according to their functions and tasks.
Previously, at the end of April, the Ministry of National Defense announced the decision to establish the 19th Army Corps, built on the foundation of the Northeast Corporation. The 19th Corps has the key tasks of building forces, training, combat readiness, combining economic production with national defense, and ensuring combat and strategic engineering when necessary. The unit continues to carry out economic and defense tasks in mineral areas and border corridors, seas and islands in Quang Ninh province as well as some other key strategic areas in the Central Highlands and South Central Coast. |
