This morning, Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Deputy Minister of National Defense , attended the ceremony announcing the decision to establish the 20th Army Corps.
This event holds special significance in terms of organizational structure within the Army, marking a new stage of development for the Saigon Naval Port: from an economic-defense unit to a Maritime Economic Corps, continuing to fulfill its mission of production and business closely integrated with military and defense tasks throughout the country.
The 20th Army Corps' main functions and tasks are to integrate national defense with the economy , and vice versa; to carry out production and business tasks related to port operations, logistics services, transportation, and other marine economic sectors; to invest in and develop industrial parks, coastal and island tourism, and clean and renewable energy.

General Vo Minh Luong requested that the leaders and commanders of the 20th Army Corps continue to thoroughly understand and strictly implement the policies and directives of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense on military and national defense; combining the economy with national defense, building and protecting the Fatherland in the new period, especially the requirements of the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Marine Economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
The 20th Army Corps needs to sustainably develop the maritime economy, closely linked to ensuring national defense and security, maintaining independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and strengthening international cooperation; quickly stabilize organizational structure and personnel within the existing troop strength, assign specific tasks; consolidate Party organizations, command organizations, and mass organizations, and put them into operation according to their functions and duties.
Earlier, at the end of April, the Ministry of Defense announced the decision to establish the 19th Army Corps, built on the foundation of the Northeast Corporation. The 19th Corps has the crucial task of building up its forces, training, and maintaining combat readiness, integrating economic production with national defense, while also ensuring strategic combat and engineering support when needed. The unit continues to carry out economic and defense tasks in mineral-rich areas and border corridors, as well as in the sea and islands of Quang Ninh province, and other strategically important areas such as the Central Highlands and South Central Vietnam. |
