Duy Mạnh hopes Vietnamese fans will support the national team.
The Vietnamese national team began their training session on the afternoon of November 24th in front of many fans, mostly Vietnamese people living, studying, and working in South Korea. The spectators brought Vietnamese flags to the stadium and cheered on Coach Kim Sang-sik's team, helping them complete their training session and take another step in their preparation for the 2024 AFF Cup.
In an interview before training, center-back Do Duy Manh emotionally shared: "Football without spectators would be very sad. We hope that fans both at home and abroad will always support and cheer on the Vietnamese national team."
Duy Mạnh returns to the Vietnamese national team after recovering from injury.
Sharing his feelings after two days of training in cooler weather conditions compared to Hanoi , Do Duy Manh said: "As professional players, we have to adapt to any training or competition environment. The Vietnamese national team chose South Korea as a training location to help the team improve their physical fitness and tactics in preparation for the AFF Cup. I think this is a pretty good training location for the Vietnamese national team."
Duy Mạnh is one of the most experienced players in the Vietnamese national team, belonging to the generation that caused a sensation on the continental stage when they reached the final of the 2018 U23 Asian Championship and subsequently regularly participated in important tournaments such as the 18th Asian Games, the 2019 Asian Cup, the 2018, 2020, and 2022 AFF Cups, and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. However, persistent injuries have made it difficult for Duy Mạnh to return to his best form. Even during the team's preparation for the 2023 Asian Cup, Duy Mạnh was still racing against time until the last minute to be included in the squad traveling to Qatar.
Therefore, when Duy Mạnh was called up by coach Kim Sang-sik to the squad preparing for the 2024 AFF Cup, he worked very hard in training sessions to live up to the expectations of the South Korean strategist.
Vietnamese fans came to the stadium to support the national team.
"In terms of inspiration, all the players are the same. The whole team is here with the highest level of determination and immense excitement. The V-League has just gone through some tough rounds, and the players called up to the national team are all very proud. We will try our best to follow the training plan of the coaching staff."
"This is the right time for the whole team to accumulate energy to enter the tournament in the best physical condition and form. Southeast Asian football is developing, and the opponents are getting stronger. Therefore, not only me but all the teammates must show the highest determination to help the Vietnamese team be the strongest when entering the tournament," Duy Manh affirmed.
The Vietnamese national team is practicing tactics.
Having already had a specialized physical training session in the morning, coach Kim Sang-sik dedicated most of the afternoon training session to tactical drills, improving team cohesion, and practicing both offensive and defensive tactics.
Over the next two days, the team continued to maintain a training schedule of two sessions per day, focusing on physical fitness in the morning and tactical training in the afternoon.
On November 27th, the team will have a warm-up match against Ulsan Citizen FC before embarking on two quality tests, against Daegu FC on November 29th and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on December 1st.
Coach Kim Sang-sik trains his players in tactics.
Daegu FC is a historically significant South Korean football club, having finished as runners-up in the K-League 1 in 2016. Meanwhile, Jeonbuk is one of the most famous clubs in South Korea, boasting many national team players and having won the K-League 1 nine times, most recently in 2021. The team has also won the AFC Champions League twice and is currently participating in the 2024-2025 AFC Champions League 2, having earned 6 points after three matches and currently sitting second in Group H.
Notably, Jeonbuk is also the team that coach Kim Sang-sik was associated with both as a player and as a head coach. That's why, despite having a busy schedule, the team was still willing to play a friendly match to give the Vietnamese national team the most effective "test" before concluding their training camp in South Korea.
