The rematch between the two top teams in the region will take place at the Olympic Stadium (Phnom Penh) at 7:30 PM on May 15th (VTV5).
Before participating in the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese women's football team held many records with 7 titles and 3 consecutive gold medals. Coach Mai Duc Chung is also the most successful coach in SEA Games football (including both men's and women's teams) with 5 gold medals - a record that is unlikely to be broken. In Southeast Asia, the level and skill of the Vietnamese women's team are superior to other teams. Without applying a policy of naturalizing players or having a professional-standard domestic league, the "diamond" girls of Vietnam always earn the respect of their Southeast Asian counterparts with their resilience and agility. Notably, the Vietnamese women's national team is currently ranked 33rd in the world (FIFA), 5th in Asia, and is one of only two teams from Southeast Asia to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Prior to the SEA Games 32 gold medal match, the Vietnamese women's team had 3 wins and 1 loss, including a 3-1 victory over Myanmar in the group stage. This achievement provides added confidence for coach Mai Duc Chung's team as they face Myanmar again in the final.
Myanmar and Vietnam's women's football teams have competed against each other numerous times in high-level international competitions such as Olympic qualifiers and the Asian Cup. Since 2019, Myanmar has been one of only two Southeast Asian women's teams capable of defeating Vietnam. However, historical head-to-head statistics show that the Vietnamese women's team has a clear advantage over Myanmar, with 7 wins and 2 draws in their last 11 encounters. Furthermore, the Vietnamese women's team has also defeated Myanmar twice in the last two SEA Games. In this rematch, experts predict that Coach Mai Duc Chung's team will not find it as easy to beat Myanmar as in their previous encounter. In the semi-finals, despite being 2 goals down, the Myanmar women's team staged an impressive comeback, defeating Thailand 4-2. The tenacious fighting spirit of Coach Tetsuro Uki's team has been compared by experts to that of "samurai warriors," and they are considered a worthy opponent for the reigning champions, Vietnam. If the Vietnamese women's team defeats Myanmar and wins the gold medal at this year's SEA Games, they will set a record of 8 titles in the tournament, including 4 consecutive championships. Fans are anticipating a brilliant performance from Huỳnh Như – the striker currently playing in the Portuguese league, who has been a "terror" to the Myanmar defense, consistently scoring in the last 5 encounters between the two teams.
