As reported, during the third training session in Saudi Arabia on the afternoon of January 4th, Bui Vi Hao experienced a problem with his right leg. During the warm-up, the 22-year-old striker felt unwell and had to leave the field limping, covering his face in frustration. Afterwards, his right ankle was bandaged and iced.
Bui Vi Hao has undergone thorough examinations by doctors, and initial results indicate that the 2003-born player's injury is quite severe. Therefore, he will have to say goodbye to the Vietnam U23 team and return to his country for treatment.
Vi Hao was truly unlucky to have to take an 8-month break due to a ligament injury in his right ankle in the middle of last year. He only returned to the Vietnam U22 squad for the 2025 Panda Cup in China, but was not included in the final list for the 33rd SEA Games. Coach Kim Sang-sik only recalled Vi Hao for the 2026 U23 Asian Championship and hoped he would be a good addition to the attack.
However, injuries have left the U23 Vietnam attack short of quality personnel. Previously, Thanh Nhàn suffered a calf tear and is still racing against time to return. It is likely he will only play in the second group stage match.
Currently, the players responsible for scoring goals for the Vietnam U23 team are Thanh Nhàn, Vĩ Hào, Quốc Việt, and Ngọc Mỹ. With Vĩ Hào forced to leave, Nguyễn Lê Phát, who was dropped from the registration list, will be retained. Lê Phát was the only goalscorer in the recent 1-2 friendly loss to Syria U23.
