T-shirts are trending.

Recently, Hanoi has seen a surge in concerts leading up to the grand celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd. The most notable examples include V Concert - Radiant Vietnam, V Fest - Brilliant Youth, and The Homeland in My Heart... All were grandly organized, welcoming tens of thousands of spectators at each event.

In the festive atmosphere, the most striking sight is the sea of people dressed in distinctly Vietnamese attire. Besides ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), carrying national flags, wearing conical hats, and scarves, the most common attire is T-shirts printed with the red flag with a yellow star, the word "Vietnam," or patriotic messages and patterns.

Young people wore patriotic T-shirts at V Concert.

Not only at concerts, patriotic T-shirts are easily seen everywhere these days, from real life to social media. Around Ho Guom Lake, it's not difficult to spot groups of people gathered on the lakeshore to take photos, even on weekdays when there are no pedestrian zones. Among the crowds flocking to the Hanoi Opera House on the morning of August 20th to get tickets for the "Vietnam in My Heart" concert, glimpses of people wearing patriotic T-shirts could be seen.

Having arranged to take photos with friends in the Ho Guom area on the morning of August 20th, Ms. Tran Hua Mai (Tuong Mai, Hanoi) wore a shirt with an image of a bus carrying a joyful procession moving forward, accompanied by the slogan "Warmth and Prosperity - Happiness".

Ms. Mai revealed that besides T-shirts, she also bought scarves printed with images of President Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum and conical hats with a gold star through an e-commerce platform.

Regarding her reason for choosing patriotic T-shirts, Ms. Mai said that she only gets to experience the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day on September 2nd once in her lifetime, and she wanted to commemorate this special occasion with her friends through photos that clearly express the Vietnamese spirit. In addition, according to Ms. Mai, the T-shirts are affordable, costing less than 200,000 VND each, and can be worn daily.

Ms. Le Thuy (Cau Dien) also arranged to meet her friends in Hanoi's Old Quarter to take photos this weekend, with their group wearing matching red and yellow flag shirts. She said she was eager to "join the trend" seeing everyone sharing photos on social media. She believes this is an easy trend to follow, meaningful, and there's no reason to miss out.

"I wanted to express my love and pride for my birthplace through the red flag with a yellow star – the symbol of our country. Wearing a patriotic T-shirt and listening to the national anthem playing in the pedestrian street gave me a special feeling, both nostalgic and full of enthusiasm," Ms. Le Thuy expressed.

The area around Ho Guom Lake is attracting a large number of people at this time of year who come to take photos in celebration of the nation's major holiday.

Ms. Nhat Le (Thanh Xuan) ordered a patriotic-themed T-shirt from a local brand's website for nearly 250,000 VND. The highlight of the shirt is the back, which features a printed image of a traffic signpost with motifs such as "+84" (Vietnam's international area code), "Vietnam," "Pride," and "Independence - Freedom - Happiness." The front displays a mini version of the national flag.

Ms. Nhat Le said that the purpose of buying the shirt was not to "show off" on social media, but to wear it every day. According to the bank employee, this is the easiest way to express patriotism ahead of a major national holiday.

Patriotism in a simple, down-to-earth way.

These T-shirts have a basic design, usually short sleeves, a crew neck, and a loose or oversized fit. The colors are also simple, mainly black, white, beige, or red.

The highlight is the image or message printed on the shirt. The most popular motifs during the upcoming National Day on September 2nd are the national flag, young women in traditional ao dai dresses, soldiers, conical hats, maps of Vietnam, or famous landmarks such as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum... Accompanying the images are meaningful messages such as "I love Vietnam," "Vietnam," "Independence - Freedom - Happiness" (or individual words), "Proud to be Vietnamese," "National Day September 2nd," "Prosperity - Happiness"...

Prices for these items range from 100,000 to 300,000 VND, and many attractive promotions are available, such as discounts or complimentary accessories like canvas bags carrying patriotic messages, as the national holiday approaches.

Customers can easily purchase patriotic T-shirts at traditional stores and on e-commerce platforms.

Staff at the C. brand's store on Ba Trieu Street (Hanoi) said that the entire system is implementing a sales program called "Patriotism from the Cradle" from July 26th to September 2nd. The products are patriotic T-shirts for all genders and ages.

The average price of this product is 299,000 VND per adult shirt and 169,000 VND per child's shirt. However, customers rarely have to buy at the original price because the brand applies a "buy 2, get 20% off" and "buy 3, get 30% off" promotion.

According to staff, in August, patriotic T-shirts were the best-selling product, selling three times more than other items, as well as compared to the previous month's sales. Customers most frequently purchased T-shirts with the red flag and yellow star emblem and printed with the words "Vietnamese" (Vietnamese nation or people).

Meanwhile, on e-commerce platform S, many online stores have recorded sales of thousands of patriotic T-shirts, even exceeding 10,000.

Unlike traditional clothing, patriotic T-shirts reflect the spirit of the times and are suitable for everyday life. They are seen as a new cultural symbol – expressing love for one's homeland and national pride through modern fashion , without being overly elaborate or ostentatious.
