Buon Ho is thriving.

Poverty and backwardness are a thing of the past, and the lives of the people in Ho village (Cuor Dang commune) are improving day by day thanks to crop diversification and the unity of the people under the leadership of a respected village elder.

Walking along the concrete road through Ho village, it's easy to spot rows of well-built houses. Notably, many households have modern pickup trucks and cars parked in their yards.

Elder Y Guk Niê - a respected figure in Ho village (far left) - discusses with the villagers about rational crop conversion.

Elder Y Guk Niê, a respected figure in Hô village, happily remarked: “Those new cars are something the villagers could only dream of before. Now, thanks to coffee and durian trees, the lives of the villagers have changed dramatically.”

The transformation of Ho village stems from the villagers' hard work, bold changes in crop structure, and application of science and technology in production. In particular, the intercropping model of coffee and durian, two key crops, is yielding high economic value. Currently, the average per capita income in the village reaches 40-45 million VND per year. The entire village now has only 3 poor households and 18 near-poor households.

This resurgence is thanks in part to village elder Y Guk Niê. He not only encouraged the villagers to preserve good customs, culture, and traditional crafts such as brocade weaving and basketry, but also pioneered economic innovation.

When the durian farming model began to yield results, Elder Y Guk personally visited successful models elsewhere, then returned to organize village meetings, promoting and analyzing the economic potential of this crop. Not just talking, he boldly planted durian trees interspersed in his coffee plantation. "If you want a full stomach, you have to think differently. Our land is good, our climate is suitable, why not boldly plant a crop with higher value?" Elder Y Guk expressed.

In Buon Ho village now, it's not difficult to find spacious and beautiful houses.

True to his word, the elder learned and applied advanced scientific and technical methods to his 1.5-hectare coffee-durian intercropping project. This new model brought his family a good income, allowing other villagers to see its effectiveness firsthand and confidently follow suit. Inspired by this, many people in the village have come to believe in and boldly switch to this new crop.

"The good news is that the villagers are always united, supporting each other in planting and harvesting, sharing business experiences to rise up and become wealthy together," said elder Y Guk happily.
