A video is circulating on social media showing runner-up Phuong Nhi appearing on a livestream with the Cambodian representative during the Miss International 2023 competition.
Accordingly, Phuong Nhi seemed to be introducing this beauty queen to her audience. However, the runner-up asserted: "She is Miss Cambodia, not Cambodia ."
Immediately after this statement from the Vietnamese representative, the Cambodian beauty queen spoke up to explain that "Cambodia" is the English transliteration of the name of the country, Cambodia, and that in reality, both "Cambodia" and "Campuchia" refer to her country.
Runner-up Phuong Nhi sparked controversy when she introduced the country Cambodia by its name.
After hearing the Cambodian beauty's explanation, Phuong Nhi seemed quite surprised and turned back to chat with the audience through the camera.
However, this moment by Phuong Nhi immediately became a controversial topic among viewers. Many criticized the runner-up, Phuong Nhi, arguing that she made a serious factual error when she asserted that "Cambodia is not Cambodia."
They expressed disappointment and asserted that Phuong Nhi's English was "poor," and that she "even made mistakes on basic knowledge."
On the other hand, some viewers commented that the incident wasn't as disappointing as it seemed, and that it was just a momentary misunderstanding on the part of the runner-up. Those defending Phuong Nhi argued that she was simply surprised to learn that Cambodia also has the same pronunciation of "Cambodia" as Vietnam.

In response, the runner-up immediately reacted sharply: "This statement is underestimating the value that others bring. Therefore, your comments shouldn't be taken seriously. Thank you for your concern. Goodbye, and may we never meet again."

Phuong Nhi was born in 2002 and comes from Thanh Hoa . She was the second runner-up in the Miss World Vietnam 2022 competition. In this competition, Phuong Nhi also won the Best Skin award thanks to her beautiful and captivating face.
Reportedly, Phuong Nhi is studying International Commercial Law at Hanoi Law University. She can communicate in English and Spanish.
However, Phuong Nhi is currently deferring her studies at Hanoi Law University because she wants to fully dedicate herself to her journey to conquer the Miss International 2023 crown. After the competition ends, the beauty queen will return and continue her studies.
